Kinda New, and Looking into weaponry...

Hello, all! My name is Taylor. Im looking into possibly joining you guys at your next event. But before I do, I need to know how your Marshals judge weaponry...

Im somewhat experienced in boffer combat, and make my own LARP weapons. But I don't want to end up with no Alliance legal foam weaponry.

So to sum it all up, how do Denver Alliance LARP marshals determine if foam weaponry is safe for combat?

Hi Taylor! Welcome to Alliance -- and cool forum handle, btw!

Here are some ways that Alliance weapons differ from those in other systems:
  • Weight: Alliance's combat system is relatively light touch compared to groups like Amtgard, Belgarath, Dagohir. A 1-handed max length (48") longsword in our system will typically weigh betwen 5-12 oz.
  • Exterior measurement: Our "round" weapons use the same extwrior diameter as an uncut piece of 5/8th in PVC foam, no more, no less. We don't cut it down to fit smaller cores. We don't double pad, or use fun noodle. Flat blade weapons here typically use 2 layers of camp pad on the flat, and 3 on the sides.
  • No hooks, protrusions, or harsh angles.
  • Offensive tip of blades must 2" open cell squishy foam as a thrusting tip.
As you develop specific quesions, please reach out to me on Facebook (I piped up in your thread there, too). I'm happy to check out photos of your work, answer any questions, or get together in person if Broomfield is convenient to you.

Again, welcome!! :)
