LCO RULES CLARIFICATION: Essence Circles of Power

Tylo

Newbie
The following is a clarification of an LCO rule unique to the Twinspire campaign; this rule does not supplant any rulings made for the Maelstrom campaign or for Alliance at large and is subject to modification if our chapter's Head of Rules or Marshals deem it necessary.

There has been some confusion regarding the Circles of Power produced by Essence Magic (including by yours truly). Two distinct types of "circles" are produced by the LCO effects of Essence Magic, and they each obey different rules. The types are:

1. Circle of Power spells cast using the Essence carrier (i.e., "Essence Circle of Power"). These are standard battle magic-cast circles and obey all standard rules for a battle magic Circle of Power as written in the Alliance Rulebook: cannot be passed through, can be used to cast a formal ritual, etc. These circles CANNOT be used to cast Essence Magic rituals. Essence-cast CoPs may be used for either school of ritual magic.
2. Greater Essence Circles. Greater Essence Circles are created by (IG) breaking a Crystal Quintessence into dust and spreading the dust out in a circle. These Greater Essence Circles are the only type of circle that can be used to cast Essence Magic rituals. These circles do not afford the protection of a standard CoP - you can walk in and out freely.

In the future, Greater Essence Circles will be phys-repped differently than battle-cast CoPs in a way that makes them distinctive, to cut down on confusion about which circle is what type. We'll announce our phys-rep for this as soon as the writers and Director for Twinspire have had time to confer and lock down one we all consider a solid choice.

Thanks everyone!
