Shields are basically a sure thing. Shields can be made of almost any material, as long as the edges are properly padded. Looking at those shields I suspect you will have to pad the sides, but other than that the shield should be fine. From looking at the picture, the sword looks nearly identical to one that has already been approved for game. I could be wrong and there could be any number of reasons it actually might fail (different material, for example), so don't take this as confirmation that it is fine, but I think you have a good chance.

Hopefully one of the few weapon marshals in the game that can approve latex will chime in soon with a more firm response.

Howdy!

Can't say that I'm a weapons marshal, and I've never made my own items for fighting, but I have two cents, if you'd like to hear :)

I think we have a lot of talented folks who play this game who could make you an amazing looking Imladari shields for a fraction of the cost. A shield made by someone with experience playing this game would probably work better, definitely pass safety, and cost a lot less. From the looks of it, I don't know how successful a circular buckler with a grip like that would be, especially since I think that amount of money would get you some amazing work from someone who can customize it to your needs much better.

... I wish I could give you specific names, but I'm actually looking for someone to do a shield for me right now, too. Collin Babcock does amazing swords, and he knows other people you may be able to ask for shields. :D

Hope this helps! Good luck!

I highly recommend you get in touch with Sam Owens, whose username here is TARDIS or some variation thereof. He makes impeccable shields - sturdy, lightweight, and is very good at customizing them to individual needs.

John,

Unfortunately the only way to tell if a weapon will be safe for contact will be to have it checked by a weapon marshal. I have found that Most of the latex shields will pass with no problem. Weapons can be another story, if possible make sure that the foam on the flat sides is at least 5/8" and that it isn't too stiff. I apologize that I can't give you a more firm answer, but I don't think I've checked that particular make before. Feel free to send me a PM on the subject if you have any other questions.

One thing that I've seen done is that people will tape a portion of the soft open cell foam over the "blade" to ensure it doesn't hit too hard.

I've been hit with some of those latex weapons and they can seriously hurt haha

On the sword:
If it is the same construction as the other epic armory weapons I've held:

It's very light.
It's rather soft, but close on the 3/8" foam size.
It has a good strong layered coating, should not tear easily.
It is full closed cell all the way to the tip - no open cell at the thrusting tip. However, it is squishier than the typical pipe or camp pad foam.

The shields I've seen from the same company also have at least an inch of foam around the edges, and more than enough face padding as well. And are also very light.

I am sure Sean will want to re-certify me as a weapons marshal in this chapter and the call is his and ownerships of course but I will give the following advice.

1.) In the past Latex weapons had a very small number of individuals who were allowed to certify them for use, more strict than the weapon marshal circle.
2.) My advice to Sean were I asked is that form of latex weapon is reasonably soft for latex weapons if it is at all like the strongblade weapons that look very similar to that one. Additional clarity might be available from the Kondriks.

Most of the stuff from Epic Armory and Forgotten Dreams will pass in HQ. Keep in mind you lose out on thrusting if you go latex, but most people don't thrust very often anyway except with two handed weapons. Calimacil will not pass in HQ as they are much harder and made for games with heavier contact.

With a lot of this stuff, it will come down to player control just as much as the weapon. I know players who won't buy latex because they know they don't have the control to use them safely.

Keep in mind we have epic armory stuff for sale at events and you can put in orders with us. We generally give 10-20% off retail and you won't have to pay shipping. The sword you have above we sell for $50 and you won't have to pay an additional $10-$15 for shipping (more for shields, whose shipping is usually like $20-25).

PM me for more info.

PS: There are no Kondriks, only Kondrks. We don't need no stinking vowels.

Also keep in mind that a lot of the shields for sale are too big for Alliance. Alliance rules tend to allow weapons that are way longer than their historical counterparts and shields that are way smaller.

I use this one for my high elf in another game. It's beautiful IMO, but a few inches too long for Alliance unfortunately.

Thanks Frost. I've sent you a PM.

Also I love that shield. Have seen it several times and am severely annoyed that it doesn't fit current regs.
