The Web Redemption of the "Lightning Bolt Guy" on Tosh.0 premiered last night on Comedy Central. An encore presentation is tonight (Thursday) at 8:30pm.

I think he did a good job of representing LARPing and I think that Daniel Tosh did a good job of supporting LARPing or at least making it look as good as if not better than many other things out there.

I'd give it about a 6.5 out of 10. They held the web redemption in a Medieval Times restaurant with the staff and props from it.

i saw that tosh.0 episode, as i love daniel tosh
and i have also seen that lightning bolt video on youtube
and i thought the web redeption was great

I'm going to be watching it tonight, I missed it yesterday. :/

That was pretty awesome.

If only we had a set like the Medieval Times with a professional studio filled with special effects machinery and post production camera magic.

The hate comments have just gotten worse on youtube since Tosh.0 did that though, which sucks. People are so immature.

This is true, but I bet the majority of those people are too afraid they'll like it and that's why they don't want to do it, because apparently we are terrible people that live in our parent's basements and never get laid. Everytime someone says that, I'm like really? You're dumb, go try it and see if you like it, it's not going to kill you, and you don't even have to tell anyone, it's not like it will hurt our feelings if you go and then not tell anyone about it. Lol.

That's good. :P I live with my parents, but I'm 18, and going to a college that is 5 minutes away, literally, so there is no use for me to waste more money to live on campus, just to move 5 minutes away.

Started playing D and D at age 18, moved out when i was 20 was still in collage. met my significant other at vampire LARP at age 23, got engaged over a year a go... still living out on my own, been in the same place for 5 years now, paying my own rent bills so on, even have a kitten... Steph moved in with me almost 6 months a go. we are saving for are wedding plained for 2012 wile i host and DM a 3-3.5 game now... far cry from living with "ma and pa" not getting layed or some BS the world thinks all gamers are like. in fact i cant think of one of my freind that would fit the stereo type.... i wonder...

Have to admit however when i first started to become a hard core gamer i saw the lightning bolt video thought it looked dorky and swore i would never try LARP-ing ever!!!! wasn't 2 years latter i met a tun of cool LARP-ers, and started to reconsider the thought. hell with in the last year i ran back in to the same lighting bolt video that i had seen so many years back, lol and as a LARPer in Alliance looked at it in new light. still thought it was a lame video, but at the same time the dork in me was wanting to know what moster it was what chapter it was what game set it was and thinking the spell calls where nice and short... but ya needless to say, being a dork is more a compliment now a days.... wish the world saw it that way. sometimes i wish people would not strictly a hear to preconceived notions, and try anything at least once.

I know exactly what you mean! People that don't play larp think we are basically uncivilized people that don't have lives, but we do. I hate how others judge so quickly. I mean I have friends that are larpers, musicians, a cheer leader or two, preppy, punky, short, tall, big, small, and I tell them all to be who they are and to not let me or anyone else stand in the way of what they want, unless of course it's going to harm themselves or another human being, but that's besides the point. Lol. The matter of the fact is, people need to stop hating unless they have real facts to dislike someone instead of being silly things like: they don't get laid, they live in their parent basement, no life, geeks, no job, no friends, stupid...blah blah blah. People just need to be more open and willing to try things, and they may in fact like it even if they didn't think they'd like it before.

People will always have stereotypes as long as there is "that guy" perpetuating them and little is presented in the contrary. There is the occasional never had sex, lives in moms basement, doesn't shower, socially inept person who is drawn to fringe hobbies but 95% of the LARPers I know are normal folks who happen to like "nerdy" stuff. Hell I used to play football, I'm married and I play in a band. I just happen to like gaming of almost any kind.
On the flip side how many have been guilty of thinking every "jock" was an ignorant self absorbed jerk. I know I did when I was younger and I was on the team! It takes knowing people to abandon stereotypes.
Most people have never met a LARPer or if they did the person wasn't vocal about their hobbies. All they have to go off of is viral videos and movies. I tried to explain LARPing to my buddies and I got a lot of strange looks but a few looked interested. One of my friends even said, "wait you can't LARP you've gotten laid."
That's how we get rid of the stereotype is to be social and talk about our hobby in an appropriate context. Nobody bats an eyelash when two sports fans ramble on about a particular game. The more people see and hear about it the more comfortable they will become, even if they think it's a little silly. :D

As an art student,
A furry,
A gamer/ LARPer,
A lez,
A living out on her own young adult....

I get looked oddly a lot. so what if i where cat ears some times, or where ren where clothing to go to the bank, so what if i walk a round after a long days class covered in paint, or go on bike rides at 2 AM or do 12 miles in a dress... o gee lots of bight colors, what? thought clothing was only made in gray blue black tan and brown? ever hear of purple or lime green??

Jocks don't have to be dumb, hell i play soccer.... I also have 2 AA's and all A's and B's...
fat kids are not innately depressed, it the insults and name calling of non understanding close minded fools that make them act that way....
A cat person doesn't own 50 cats, hell they might not even own one... liking something and being that 1% that makes liking that one thing look bad is completely different.

Now a days the normal person in a crowd might be the odd ball.

Just because you look mundane doesn't mean you do not lead a colorful life, this also works in reverse if you like to dress "out side the norm" it doesn't mean your a burden on society or "off". just because you like to dress EMO or goth doesn't mean you do drugs or are a cutter... just as just because you have a disability doesn't mean your stupid useless of unaware of what is going on or being said a round you, special needs people are not ********, I souled know I am one...brain damage yes, a retard no...

Liking to where ribbons or bows in your hair is not an indicator of anything! ren where like clothing on a weekday doesn't mean my school is having a multicultural festival. And, no you can not come...

Taking the bus doesn't mean your a hippie or pore, or homeless, it might mean this, but it also might mean you have a seizure disorder and by law you can't drive. or that your cars in the shop getting fixed.

I know I'm venting here, sorry by the way for this.

People do not have to all dress a like and don't, and being a nerd doesn't mean I where glasses have or have ever owned a pocket protector, or carry 6 types of ink pins on me at all times. yes I know how to use a grafting calculator but that is because I payed attention in math class....

The stereo types don't end at whats a gamer, whats a dork, LARPer, nerd, jock, or even art student, it gos on to furry, old people. young people clothing fashions, speech patterns, genetics, race, age, sex, where you live...

Hell so i live in the boon docks of San Jose, doesn't mean I am in a gang.

I wish I could tell everyone who has ever had a preconceived notion about someone they know nothing about, "Open your eyes, open your mind, turn on the freaking lights. Put your self in the other persons shoes, and remember if you don't then your just supporting what ever stereotype you fall under."

OK venting over...

Lol, venting is completely fine. And both of you are completely and absolutely correct.

I agree with the rant. Just because I wander around in a policeman's uniform doesn't mean you can come running to me and expect me to help you when you've been robbed.* ;)

Yeah, but they've now got 1.8 million hits. And if just 1% of 1% decide to give it a try, that's another thousand LARPers. :D
Math fail. That's 180. ;)

*Credit where credit's due - Thanks to Chappelle for that one.
