moccasins

foot related question again.

so i have me a wild elf, and want me some moccasin type shoe/boot/thing. But, as always I like cake and enjoy eating it too... so I'd also like said shoe/boot/moccasin thing to allow me to run and frolic with ankle support and withstand the might of the evil rocks at HQ. anyone have any suggestions? am i foolish for trying to find this combo? perhaps covering an existing comfortable modern shoe is the only answer?

Mocassins have zero ankle support. You could get seperate ankle supports to wear inside them. Might require getting a little bigger mocassin however.

You probably also want to get insoles, as mocassins also have very thin soles. They are great for the woods, not so great for the rocks.

i figured as much. I want something that acts like a sneaker but looks like a moccasin. does such a thing exist or need I create it?

I have tremendously high arches and if I don't wear shoes with arch support all weekend, by Sunday my feet are aching something terribly. Unfortunately, this means that sometimes you'll see me wearing my black tennis shoes on Sunday.

So if you find something with support that looks good, be sure to post it here! I'm interested as well.

Not sure. I am blessed with really good ankles so have never looked for such things and probably couldn't tell the difference anyway.

yeah

get some sports or hiking sandals... you know the ones you can go trudging in rivers with and the like. Get them 1 size too big and put them over your mocassins so they will protect you from the Doom-Shale of HQ. As for ankle support, Folks who tell me they do this ( one owner and several midwest players) tell me that they get decent support for it. You can also reinforce your ankle with a brace or ace bandage if your still worried.

Moccasins are doom in many different fashions... No tread means sliding thru mud and wet fields, the low support mean no ankle support = twisted everything, low arch support can be fixed with inserts, but also brutal...

that's what I am leaning toward now if I can't find a bigger boot. The girlfriend is laughing at me because this is what she told me to do from the beginning. ::shakes fist at girlfriend::

Random point: be careful, because the leather/leather dye some moccasins are made from will also probably stain your socks through the first few rounds of use.

But yeah. What Scott said about ankle support. That's why I play a wild elf and gave up on that idea rather quickly. Instead, I wear a pair of durable-as-hell knee high boots made by Timberland that, since they're winter, still look appropriately wild elfy while not making my feet cry a million tears. I've had them since I've made the character and I still haven't needed to repair them, too.

Minnetonka makes hard-soled moccasin boots for pretty cheap:

And you can always buy a decent orthotic insert if you require more support, at sites such as:

http://www.footsmart.com

I have a pair of these that I have worn to two ALLIANCE events, so far.

Unless you have thick ankles (I have sprained my ankles so many times in my life, the scar tissue acts like ankle braces) and unless you have heavily calloused soles on your feet, you will be miserable in these moccasins -- or probably any moccasin. They look great, and they fit like a glove -- but they have no ankle support and the soles are thin.

Anyone ordering these should probably order them at least one size larger -- I wear an 11, and I had to order 12s to have them fit -- and if you plan on using cushioning insoles or orthotics, order them at least two sizes larger than you wear.

I've used moccasins in the past, and I thought ankle support wasn't much of a problem. Indeed, it's not as much as you could compare to a modern day Army boot, however I've been able to move around on Minnesota terrain with out a problem.

I am currently using http://www.moccasins.com/mens-mocca...innetonkamensfrontlacekneehimoccasinboots.cfm, without the fringe. I can feel nearly everything under my feet, but wouldn't a Wild Elf love that aspect? :). As said in the post before me, these are the hard soles. So, you don't sacrifice too much grip or crawl away with hurting feet at the end of the day.

Robb,
These are ridiculously expensive, but I know they're the boots that I am slowly, year by year, saving up for. Their booth can be found at the Pennsylvania renaissance Fair (or at least was the last time I was there.). I know they have amazing tred on the bottom (as you can pick your own) but I am not 100% sure of the ankle support. A friend of mine owns a pair, and they've lasted her a very, very long time.

I actually went out the night before the first time I played this character and found the best moccasin-looking shoes i have ever seen in a regular shoe store. they have normal sneaker-like ankle support and a good bit of tread on them yet they do not look all that modern at all. I wore them at HQ and didn't even feel the giant rocks under my feet on our evil evil hill of giant rocks.

I love these shoes and can't wait to wear them again. i think i paid 20 bucks for them because they were on sale.

sometimes, you just get lucky...

I believe you could find your moc/shoe/boo at a fred meyers, or walmart, (not sure wich, but I know it's one of 'em) my best friend is the "trendy" type and has a pair of "skate shoes" designed like moc's, but they have a plaid design. as for ankle support, I really have no idea how the skate shoes do, but they will be better than real one's for all that stuff. so they do exist, good luck!
