Movie call for LARP extras

Knight
The Knights of Badassdom, a new movie directed by Joe Lynch (G-4
Attack of the Show; Director of Wrong Turn 2), is set to begin it's
epic Heavy Metal Horror Adventure. Following talk on the film, I’ve
found out there is much anticipation for this horror flick - it was
actually offered to John Landis (an American Werewolf in London), but
he passed and recommended Joe - both based on his gaming background as
well as his first directorial debut with Wrong Turn 2 (a direct to DVD
movie that was far better than it should have been).

The cast is shaping up very well with a bit of star power - here is a
blurb from Dreadcentral.com...

“And the names just keep on coming for Joe Lynch's upcoming horror/
comedy/thriller Knights of Badassdom, and when we think badass chick,
this latest addition more than fits the bill!

According to website Bleeding Cool Summer Glau ("Terminator: The Sarah
Connor Chronicles") has just signed up to join the previously
announced Peter Dinklage, Ryan Kwanten, Steve Zahn, and Danny Pudi in
the flick, which follows the exploits of a group of LARPers (Live
Action Role Players) who accidentally release a big badass demon.

Spectral Motion, who created creatures and mutants for the Hellboy and
X-Men franchises, will be handling the special effects duty so expect
a lot from the plethora of demonic minions that are set to be
unleashed.

Lynch will be shooting from a script penned by Kevin Dreyfuss and Matt
Wall. Knights of Badassdom begins filming this July in Spokane,
Washington."

Here are a few sites that have covered the movie concept...

Below is a blurb of storyline that was supplied by Matt Wall, one of
the Writers for the script.

STORY LINE: A huge group of dedicated, costumed LARPers (Live Action
Role Players), dressed like knights, elves and various characters,
give up their cell phones and take to the woods for the Central New
Jersey Knights of Badassdom Adventure Society, where they are set to
re-enact a dungeons and dragons scenario right out of the mythical
Middle Ages. After being dumped by his sexy girlfriend Beth, Joe
reluctantly decides to join Eric and his Larping friends in the woods
rather than stay behind and feel sorry for his newly single status.
There he meets hot, ***-kicking, intimidating huntress LARPer Gwen,
and finds himself a surreal adventure wilder than he ever imagined
when a make-believe wizard casts an all-too-real spell from an ancient
book he bought on Ebay, releasing an actual demon with a taste for
human blood -- and souls -- that starts systematically decimating the
players in this suddenly deadly "game." Will our guys become the
heroes they have been pretending to be before time runs out?...

Director Joe Lynch and Writers Kevin Dreyfuss and Matt Wall have done
exhaustive research on their own before reaching out to the LARP
Alliance as a possible resource for the film. Joe and Matt actually
came out to a Fighter’s Guild practice, where they learned the basics
on LARP swordplay amongst our normal group of attendees. Some warm up
excercises, even a few team-on-team battles.

Matt invited Adrianne Grady (Technical Advisor for the 2008 film Role
Models) and myself to his office last month at the Jim Henson Studio
Lot in Hollywood, where we were able to meet Mark Burton, a Producer
(along with Matt Wall) for the film. We read the script and sat in
Matt’s office, going over everything, page by page. After reading it,
it feels a little like equal parts of Shaun of the Dead, Role Models,
and Army of Darkness!

The LARP Alliance and Iron Liege once again (as previously with Role
Models) have been contacted to provide resources for the film,
including weapons/costumes/props. We’ll have some custom Iron Liege
weaponry in the film, mostly hybrids - avoiding the use of any duct
tape boffers/fun-noodle swords on the one side and pure Latex weaponry
on the other. We also have been asked to help recruit LARP extras for
the film, another outstanding point that speaks of their desire to
portray the hobby as accurately as possible.

As this movie is being shot in Spokane, Washington, we are looking
for LARPers local to that area to participate as extras for this
amazing movie! This is another chance for LARPers to represent the
hobby directly! We do not have a locked schedule yet but it looks
like our heavy "extra days" will be a day to two around July 10th, and
then the weeks of July 19-Aug 4 2010. If you are in Washington or
Idaho, or can help facilitate getting LARPers involved in those area,
please get back to me ASAP.

The movie's LARP is heavily Fantasy themed, similar in style and form
to a World Course game (more like NERO), but with a huge battle scene
(think Dagorhir's yearly Ragnorok). LARP extras should fit the style
and theme, or come close to it. It is not exact on a true period, so
Knights, Vikings, and Rennaissance Swordsmen can mingle with Fairies,
Dryads, and Wizards.

We need any interested people to send an email to Amy Nathan, Casting
Coordinator for the film at amyjnathan@msn.com by June
27th (I know, not a lot of time) with the following information

* Pictures of you in your LARP Garb, preferably multiple costumes
* Pictures of weapons, props, etc.
* Pictures or film of you in combat or some other active role

All questions regarding compensation should be passed on to Amy. There
is no budget for lodging or food to my knowledge. There is an Amtgard
Chapter right in Spokane, Storm Haven. They may have knowledge of
campgrounds or costs associated with staying in the area.

We will be leaving SoCal in less than a month to start on pre-
production, so I may have limited internet access while on set - my
phone should still work. I am excited at what this movie represents
for the LARP hobby overall, with the willingness of the Director,
Writers, Producers and Department Leads to give a convincing scope to
the LARP in the movie that far exceeds the LAIRE game in Role Models.
I hope that we can get the best to represent! It's going to be one
hell of a summer...
