Movin' to California

So, the winds of fate are hurtling Holly and I down to Western University of Health Sciences, which is located in Pomona. The office I will most likely be working in is located in downtown LA, which appears to be an hour and a half away from the school in traffic. Realizing LA is like 400 miles from San Fran, I figure it can't hurt to ask: does anyone know anything about the areas (apartments or houses) in between those two? Our goal is to rent about 1000 sq ft (2+ bedrm) for under 1300 a month, which a single hour's scanning of rent.com and such gives a few different options.

I'd talk to Adam if you hadn't already thought of that, being Orange county born and raised he's probably got a good feel for that area. Congrats big time on Holly getting in! Wish you guys were moving to Chicago but I know this will be easier for coming back to visit family and such. Hope it all works out well for you guys!
