I'm an advocate of quality over quantity, personally. There is a small pool of regular volunteers for cons, and often difficulties getting enough people to volunteer. It's also a lot of work behind the scenes to get the equipment there to run mod demos, specifically. (Table = way easier!) Personally, I have concerns about burning out the already somewhat small pool of volunteers by attempting too many con appearances. Of course, if there is a larger pool of volunteers, that largely alleviates most of my concerns!
Denver ComicCon is the major exception I'll carve out. It's indisputably a huge show... of travelers who don't live within easy commuting distance of our events in Woodland Park, CO. Sure, many locals attend, too -- but there's so much competition for cool things to look at, check out, space at the con. Even if you can identify people local to Colorado, in a big audience like a major comicon, there's no guarantee they're roleplayers, gamers, cosplayers, interested in Fantasy as a genre, and so forth. It's my personal opinion that with DCC, "the juice is not worth the squeeze" for Alliance to do either table or mod-demos -- but that's just my voice there.
Shows that we've talked about attempting in style for Alliance include the following:
GenghisCon
CosmiCon
AnomalyCon
Starfest
Conclave of Gamers
Malcon
Rocky Mountain Fur Con
Tacticon
MileHiCon
I'm all for trying new shows once or twice, and see how they do for Alliance. If they seem like a good fit with our general vibe, great, let's add them going forward!
