Hi there,
My name is Taylor. I'm 26 years old and have always wanted to give LARP a try. I recently found http://mnalliance.com/ and have been preparing for the upcoming event (Sept 13-15). There are 6 of us confirmed to go (either on fb or verbal confirmation), and possibly 2-3 more unconfirmed. We all plan to play as NPCs as this is everyone's first try at a real larp game. I created a facebook group and left simple, yet detailed instructions for preparing my caravan for the game:
Basically:
"1. Commit to the entire weekend and bring a good attitude. Don't come as a joke or to be ironic because ultimately you'll end up bored while the rest of us have fun. Be prepared to come early to help set up or stay late to take down.
2. Read through the FAQ section at http://mnalliance.com/new-players/faqs/
3. Follow the instructions listed at: http://mnalliance.com/new-players/faqs/getting-started/
4. Download the pdf for national player guide book. Familiarize, but don't have to read fully.
5. Download the pdf for regional south mn player handbook. Read entirely.
6. Fill out medical sheets/waiver to bring."
I then left a list of things players need to bring. Some of this I gathered through materials found on the site, some from common sense. I wasn't sure if there were cabins or sleeping arrangements provided. I have a 6-7 man tent myself that my group can use if necessary.
"Prepare for camping. You can bring a tent or sleep in a giant tent with the rest of our crew if you wish (can comfortably fit 6-7)
Pack the following items:
Costuming (most extra pieces provided by the NPC camp):
- white headband (required for going out of character)
- 2+ pairs of black slacks or leggings (no shorts, no jeans)
- a black skirt (ladies...or gentlemen, no judgments)
- 2+ all black long sleeve t-shirts
- 2+ all black button up dress shirts
- 1-2 black sweatshirts (it will get cold at night)
- a few pairs of black socks/underwear
- black boots: simple and medieval looking (no tennis shoes as that is against the rules)
- black shoes: something more comfortable for running (no tennis shoes)
- any shirts, jewelry, scarves, satchels, pouches, or other bobbles you think could be fun to have
- any make up and/or costume make up you think could be fun to have
Camping:
- a sleeping bag or comforter
- a ground mat (a 1 inch foam camping pad, they're cheap at walmart and 20x better than a sleeping bag on the tent floor, trust me...your spine will thank you)
- a pillow
- basic bathroom supplies (tooth brush, paste, *deodorant*, etc.)
- (optional) personal tent
Other things:
- personal snacks (as far as I know there are meals provided, but it's good to have your own snacks, particularly healthy energy-giving items like granola, trail mix, dried fruits, water bottles, etc.)
- a very small notepad and a pen (use for a million things: writing down notes, orders, directions, keeping journal entries, getting out-of-character contact information for new friends, etc.)
- plastic bags (good for keeping everything dry and good for storing laundry in)
- (optional) head phones/phones/charger
- (optional) spell packs to donate (http://vimeo.com/20037376)
- (optional) cash for gas, food, and who knows what else"
I haven't heard back from any noobie marshall via email yet and as the next game approaches fast (sept 13-15 camp stearn a scout camp right?) I wanted to be sure I was bringing my group prepared. I just need to know that the location is now Camp Stearn? What are the sleeping and food arrangements? What is the protocol for registering this many new players at once? Are there any fight practices before the game that we could possibly attend? And will you need help setting up/breaking down. I'd like to do this right and I'm confident my tribe will do the same. Thanks!
