After various discussions, careful thinking, and a near universal request during closing ceremonies in May, the Newsletter policies have been simplified and a deadline extended.
The current policies are modified as such, both for purposes of simplicity and to encourage participation:
Sign Up Policy (Staff Reporter): Either contact the Newsletter Editor via PM or e-mail (mikestrauss@yahoo.com) before the start of the weekend. -OR- Sign up on the sign up sheet that will be available at Logistics. You must do this before the end of the weekend and you must include your e-mail address when you sign up. [Signing up before the weekend is preferred and will be rewarded slightly high on goblin stamps]
Sign Up Policy (Field Reporter): Sign up on the sign up sheet that will be available at Logistics any time AFTER you have participated in the module you wish to report (as a PC or NPC). You must do this before the end of the weekend and must include your e-mail address when you sign up.
Secrecy: All articles will be checked by plot for secrecy concerns. If you have any OOG concerns that information may be secret and no IG character would discuss it, please include your concerns in the report. We would rather have the information and NOT include it in the newsletter than not know about it at all. If and when appropriate, players will be contacted directly if plot and the newsletter editor are unsure.
Deadline: The deadline for all reports (staff, field, freelance) and other pieces (columns, gossip, letters to the editor, editorials, etc.) is the 2nd Monday after the end of the event (8 days after the end of the event).
Failure to Deliver: Failure to deliver a promised report simply causes you to not earn any goblin stamps for that. Additionally, the next time you sign up to be either a staff or field reporter, you will be rewarded as if you were a freelance reporter. Basically, failure to report once puts you on a mild probation. But prove that you are dependable and that probation ends. This "probation" will be waived for any legitimate reason, especially if the newsletter editor is informed in advance of the deadline.
All that said, the newsletter still needs more staff reporters. Please, the rewards are very good for a rather modest amount of work. I've seen plenty of people who include almost enough information for a good staff report in there "Weekend Favorites" post and, to be quite honest, I peruse that thread for additional details for the articles. Since I am already using stuff you wrote, why not actually get rewarded for it?
