npcing

i was wondering if those who have had npc experience could tell me a little about what its like.

npcing is awesomesauce

Npc-ing is tireing, can be stressful, you go home after the event sore and beat up, you smell odd, and your face will have no less that 5 colors of cake makeup imbeded in the pores.

And Its one of my absolute FAVORITE things this whole god damn world.

I'll give you a run down of my usual firday night in monster camp at any chapter other than caldaria (cuz i have different responsibilites there)
Generaly show up around 6-10pm. Say hi to people I havent seen in X amount of time, set up my sleeping arangments, and change into "standard issue NPC black". Eventualy game on is called and the first random damages start to go out. Goblins? Trolls? Gnolls? who knows. I get into costume, I get makup on, I get tresure and any further instructions from the staff, and out I (with others usualy) go. If your "random damage" then your a wondering monster. you fight the PC's when you come across them, and you give everyone a good time before you are killed, which will hapen a LOT. Rinse repeet till you run outa lives.

Then you return to camp, find out whats next, and hydrate. Turns out its wave battle time. Costume change, stats, tresure, instructions. Now its everyone in NPC camp out for a large scale battle with X lives againt the whole town of PC's. Awesomeness ensues. Eventauly the PC's will ether win or retreat, or complete some esoteric objective and the battle will come to a close. Return to camp. Hydrate. People are usualy pumped up now. Jokes are being told, recap of awesome moments in the last fight, and anything else which was fun. People rest up a bit, and find out whats next on the drawing board.

Basicaly my point is, every townsfolk, every monster, every dude looking for help, everyone single role that isn't a person's character, is played by an NPC. When you come NPC, you take on 1000000 different roles. You might be a crying townfolk needing help one second, and a seasoned vetran fighter the next. By the end you will be tiered, you may be sore, but generaly you will have had an awesome time. I know how good I feel when I walk into NPC camp and see my friends there, and know we are about to go out and make this game happen. There are down times. Sometimes its better than others, and people will always have bad days, but NPC-ing always comes down to a fun time for me. The atmosphere and shear goof factor of what we do on the weekends, combined with the fun of the game, = some of the best times I ahve ever had.

Plus, you get the same amount of xp for your character as if you had pc-ed the weekend, plus aside from membership dues, its free!!!!!
Sorry this got way longer than I ment it to. But come NPC, its a great time. If you come NPC caldaria, i'm the guy with long red hair giving you the tresure when you go out and according to the rest of staff "its all my fault".

lol, it was just as long as it should have been, thanks for explaining it all for me and i will seriously consider doing this for the july event in nh.

I second! Well said, Bill.

I NPC'ed exclusively my first three years, and some days I still really miss the scent of goblin green and babywipes...

I miss NPCing...>ALOT!....it stinks having to care whether or not your character dies....in fact I miss NPCing so much that when tzydl actually got her body points taken down to zero I started to put my sword on my head...Sean/Justicar came by and whispers "you're not out of game just down" heheheheheheh
