(March 27 @ 10 am: using current weather as point of reference)
Iso’bel walked out onto the front steps of the Earthweaver’s enclave, cloak on her arm. Closing the door behind her, she planted her staff as a brace on the stone and shook herself from ear tips to tail to toes, fluffing out her fur and mane to the Calenhelm air. It was such an undignified thing to do, though, no matter how many times she did it, the tingle of the unsettlingly powerful magic constructing the portal she had just used to return from Auric still clung to her.
Quickly sidestepping the resulting (mind you, involuntary) cloud of shed fur and travel dirt, she uttered a disdainful “harrumph” to it before swinging her cloak over her shoulders and trotting down the rest of the stairway into the street. There were errands to do and patients to visit. She may not officially be back on duty until tomorrow, but it was the polite thing to at least let her clients know she was back in the city.
As she walked, she flipped her hood up against the large flakes of softly falling snow, eyeing the gray sky overhead. It was truly unfortunate that the first few weeks after the vernal equinox always seemed to cling so desperately the previous season. She had noticed the green of spring starting to emerge on the island while she was there, but it did not seem to be the case here on the continent. No matter, the lingering winter and heavy air here was almost a comfort to her, for it was a confirmation that she was not there; the place she once called home, the place she would not truly return to until she was strong enough to make the difference that was needed.
Running through her mental list, she stopped for a moment at a crossroads before turning in the direction of the marketplace. Sophia had sent her back with several letters to deliver to her wholesalers; she would start with that, then work her way back to the enclave calling upon her charges as her path came upon their dwellings.
A content smile settled on her features as she strode along. After 3 weeks away, it was good to be back in the capital. Good to finally be getting back to work.
