Peanut Allergy

In the past when I have played HQ, there has sometimes been open containers of shelled peanuts in the tavern as well as open jars of peanut butter. At all the events I have played before when this has happened I was NPCing and could avoid the tavern if need be. However I will be PCing for this upcoming event and would like to not be scared to go in the tavern. Can I humbly request that peanuts be kept closed off if people want to eat them. For me its not just a matter of eating them. I physically can not be around them as the smell literally begins to effect my respiration. I dont think It will kill me but it does cause problem if I want to be in a room with an open jar of peanut butter. Shelled nuts are worse as cracking them puts peanut dust in the air. Esspecially if they fall on the floor and people start stepping on them. I don't want to be a downer on any ones game so If there will and must be peanuts in the tavern i will simply avoid it but i thought i would let every one know while I am thinking about it.

Thanks

Jeremy

I think this is a reasonable request.

For Jeremy's sake, let's all try to keep peanuts out of the tavern, if at all possible.

For those who don't read the boards, I sugest printing out Coggin's Mr. Peanut and posting it in Logistics.

yes, no killing jer. It has already been determined that I will be the one to accidently kill him via peanuts. I almost did it once with chocolate ice cream...

Much appreciated.

On a side note pistachios are loved by all and will not effect me in the least, or at least they have yet to turn on me. Though i have been known to be be frightened of them.

sometimes i have nightmares like this...

Jeremy,

Do you have an epi pen if you do have a reaction?

I don't know if Cortni (our resident EMT) will be at the event, but I'm a first responder. Somebody should know where you keep it if you have one, or else there's nothing we can do for you except call 911.

Thanks
Michelle

I accutally do not have an epi pen. I know... I know... this is where every one yells at me. I havent had one for 15 years and have managed. So long as no one feeds me peanuts i will be fine.

I am aware that i need to get one. My mother and Jen remind me constantly. I just havent had an opportunity to make an appointment with my doctor. That being said I appreciate your concern. But i dont plan on eating any peanuts so I believe i will be okay.

Ok so balls wont display his nuts in the tavern

There will be peanuts in the cookies I am bringing, so thanks for the heads up. I will leave them in the Ash Forest camp, and will not bring them to the tavern.

Okie dokie then. Some people's reactions are more severe than others. I've seen people need epi pens just for smelling the darn things.

Understood. I do plan on getting one eventually. but i have to schedule an appointment with my doctor and all that.. for some reason it always gets postponed. I suppose i should stop making excuses and just get it done...

sigh... theres not enough time in the day

Recommendation on getting one.

When I first got mine, it was also due to an unknown food allergy. I was given it as a 'precaution' in case something ever got so bad as to induce anaphylactic shock (never have had that problem)...

but the first time I went to the doc, the shot was near my spine. Post receive epi pen, the shots in your thigh...

MUCH easier to deal with thigh pain, then near the base of your spine pain. So make sure you snag one before it happens :)

yeah i know all about shots to the spine. When i was 13 and had my allergy testing first done, i ahd to get a series of shots to test my allergic reaction levels. They had these plates with 32 needles on each and they would press them into the small of the back. YAY 32 shots at the same time. I got to do that 3 weeks in a row.

Yeah, I had the old test, where they use both your arms...

Although nothing beats when I busted my knee, and they did an EMG, both surface and intramuscular.

Surface was interesting. They zap your legs with a low voltage to check for reaction.

Intramuscular they stab a needle into your muscle at multiple regions and ask for you to flex it. and then they do it to your good leg to check the difference. And then your lower back.

So yeah. Needles = not fun. Well, unless you count tattoos...and then..no. Not fun. Nice artwork afterword though :)

Eric , Mike, Scott ,
Can we post something at logistics making all players and NPC's aware we have players with severe allergy to peanuts? This way everyone can be aware..because not everyone has food up at the tavern but at the individual cabins and some people walk around ig with snacks and such........
So before you offer any food to anyone just ask as a precaution if they are allergic to anything foodwise.

Just my 2 cents!

well as someone who has lived with the alerfy for 16 years or so I can tell you that i am very very ver good about checking anything i am about to eat, or not eating it. Aslo as far as anyone eating peanuts here and there i can smell them a far way off and just go the other direction. Its like a 6th sense. So im not to worried about it. All the same though if you guys want to post something at logistics I would definately appreciate it.

Thanks guys

after 2 years of being nagged by many people I got an Epe Pin today. i will have it with me at the event. EMT's can rest easy.
