Plot seeking guest writers for blue/orange cards

Traceroo

Rogue
Team Daedalus is looking for guest writers to help us generate blue information cards, and orange information cards for young pages at events. We prefer that starting writers will begin their Acarthian writing career with this content instead of leaping into mod writing and larger encounters. This will give us a small writing sample, and help us offer you a diving board from which to leap into the story of New Acarthia.

Team Daedalus will reward approved blue and orange cards at the rate of 5 Goblin Points per ordinary card, or 10 Goblin Points if your card includes a formatted text prop like a letter printed on parchment or a puzzle, or the like that goes with the card.

Guidelines for card generation are as follows:
  • MUST be turned into plot@alliancedenver.com by the Friday 1 week before an event
  • MUST be formatted using our PDF template for information cards, which we’ll share with you
  • MUST be proofread and spellchecked.
Writing guidelines for content of blue cards for all ages are as follows:
  • The main scene description should at least provide a little useful info, OR be entertaining. PCs feel ripped off when they read a card that doesn’t apply to them, and they get nothing out of it at all.
  • “The story thus far” of this world and its factions, denizens; assume that you’re writing for new players who have never heard of this story element before
  • Things that PCs can talk about - about the same level of info and importance as rumors in rumor sheets
  • “I feel good about this” applications of Craftsman skills that make PCs feel special
  • Scenting ability for wylderkin & sarr always popular
  • “Buying Tracker or Scout was worth it”
  • Cards in taverns or the guildhouse are great for social skills like Craftsman: Bard, Spy, or for members of those guilds only
Orange Cards
Writing guidelines for content of orange cards for young pages are as follows:
  • Requirements: “You have page status.”; or, “You have page status, or are the adult guardian of a page.”
  • May include 1 extra, such as Page Status + Read/Write
  • The rulebook is boring to read. Focus on one spell, one rule, one item, one race, or any one thing from the game world, and explain how it works. Be sure to explain whether that is a skill that pages can use right now (they can’t use combat skills til they’re older).
  • Small but important pieces of info relevant to the current event that they can tell adults and feel important. Example: “You can trade with the Ratmen!”

Things that pages can talk about in-character:
  • Questions they can follow up with by asking other PCs
  • Reasons to meet important people in town
  • Reasons to meet a person of a particular race, or with a special skill
  • Reasons to make new friends, and things to say to them on introduction
  • Funny jokes that would be appropriate printed on a popsicle stick
  • Easy life lessons and teaching moments
Ideally, we’d love to receive your blue cards in sets of three (3) or more to spread your story around site. PLEASE feel free to use current campaign elements like monster tribes you’re familiar with, or touching on other current story elements. Plot will review your cards and will edit for content and make any changes or additions necessary to blend in with the overall story.

Please email us at plot@alliancedenver.com if you have questions about this writing assignment. Otherwise, get to work, and send us some of your writing samples when you’re ready for review!

Thanks,
Team Daedalus
