Pot Luck and Dragon Poker Tournament

We would like to have a Faire day event where everyone can come as their characters and socialize with everyone else. The concept is a potluck so everyone brings a dish to pass and also an Dragon Poker tournament with prizes, etc... Dave and Amy have graciously offered to host this event at their house on 4 mile rd in TC. We have a few options though as to when this should happen and would like some input from everyone.

First, we need to know what works best for everyone, having it on a Sat or a Sun?
Second, which would be better, the first weekend in November or sometime in the begining of December?

Please post as soon as possible so we can get this nailed down and also if you have any questions or comments/suggestions for this event let us know. We would like to have the event date and info posted by next Monday 10/25 at the latest.

Thank you,
Beverly

Re: Pot Luck and Poker

Derek and I will be out of town Sunday Nov 7th (New York Jets at the Detroit Lions, woot!)

Other then that, I am game.

I would prefer November. Neither date is a 'deal-breaker', so I wouldn't worry about scheduling around me.

I am interested how you are going to run the tournament, in a 'winner take all' type of game like Dragon poker. Especially if people are able to dip into their personal funds. A set 'buy-in' would level the field, but also removed the 'ZOMG I'm F'd' nature of the hopper special.

We will have other in-genre games to play as well as Dragon Poker. This is meant as a causual atmosphere get together. We will still be having our formal dinner in January/February-ish so stay tuned to the boards for that.

We have thought of actually having two types of Dragon Poker contests run during the event.

One of them will be a buy in style where we have a set amount of in-game coin to buy a spot and you are given X amount of chips to play with. Groups of four (with NPC's filling in the missing spaces if needed) Last one standing moves on to the next round. (that also depends on how many people are playing, if we only have two groups of four then the top two move on.) the final round contestants will be given equal amounts of chips again and play starts over. Last one with chips wins the prize (which will be well worth the entry fee). I see people playing conservativly on this one.

Then the other idea, which is not really a tourny, will be all in-game coin driven (as per usual play). The prize for winning that will be a fat coin purse of course. (yes, you can go into the juice over this one.)

Will mysterious gamblers from the mysts arrive at the party, with fat coin purses and a desire to play the game called Dragon Poker? Come and find out! (well after we decide on the date of course :D )

Any Saturday before December 7th would be good for me. Past that day I will be pretty busy and wouldn't want to miss it. But you know me...I will make it to whatever :).

It looks like we are going with the 4th of December for the Potluck. Thanks to all who PM'd, Posted or called us.
Stay tuned to the boards for more information, potluck sign up and pre-reg lists.

As of right now any date works for me. I love the idea of a dragon poker tournament, but we need to play with the house rules of "Rezzik Wins". That is my favorite game. Also, I do believe that the Hopper Special has now been renamed the "Mathis Special"....

I disagree. I know there was a push for the change, but I do not think Mathis earned it. Yes he got hit up for 1200 gold, but he did not pay it. The game just ended and you all split the pot, or something similar. If mathis had actually paid the money and the game continued, I would be more in favor of a change. I would hate for such a traditional name to be changed due to a situation where the victim of 'the special' did not have to sell his soul to pay up.

Sets a bad precedent.
