Basically, they have to be able to hold 1/4 oz of liquid (they don't have to have lids, but those can be nice to have). Since you won't find much of anywhere that sells test tubes in English units, you want 8ml or greater capacity. (Those links are to some cheap 8ml vials and caps). Those vials specifically are a flexible plastic rather than a rigid plastic. That's kind of important for what you'll be using them for, I've seen people impaled on broken vials, and those kind don't break that way.
