I am looking to start a box for props, something I am looking for are metal seals for envalopes and scrolls. I think they would look great and add to the treasures.

If you have some you dont use let me know. Donation or purchase is possible.

I agree, though those seals are pretty spendy for how little they are. Maybe you can get ahold of them on ebay. EIther that, or maybe one of our illustrious metal workers can make some as well.

And if someone starts making them, please let me know. I wanna get a "family" set made.

I'm assuming you mean the type that you use with melted wax, yes?

I'll see what I can do about getting some made up, though it might take me a while. Incidentally, metal might not be the best idea, based on cost. I can tell you that they're not cheap. It's not too hard to make some seals out of resin, especially if you have a dremel tool and some fine bits. Oddly enough...I do ;)

Yes, we are talking about envalope and scroll seals.

What ever material they are made of must with stand the heat of the hot wax.

They would be great on scrolls, letters, and other important papers.

We will keep looking I have been on E-bay and not found what I consider reasonable. I guess 8.00 is a low price as some go for 20.00 and more.
We will see what we can find.

Also if you have some that are not what you would consider your favorites we can use them also. Letters, animals, and such.

Actually, if you are looking for insignias for wax stamping I suggest you think a little more artistically. All it takes is an emblem made from resin or metal.

Some things I've used for insignias before-

Metal Leather stamps. The local leather or saddlery shop probably has a bunch of used stamps that can be gotten for free if you ask. Once they lose an edge they really can't be resharpened.

Coins. Go to a flee market or look at the local thift shop. Typically older coins have deeper recessions and make better stamping tools. You can find a variety of things like castles and various emblems on them.

Costume rings (preferrably men's because they are bigger). The term "insignia ring" came about for this reason. You can often find great insignia rings for less than a $1 at many flee markets and some thrift stores. Usually they are junk jewelry (you can also find some cool ones in those little 50 cent toy dispensers)

If you need a costum one, I can do a resin mold as well. I have some decent tools for jewelry making and sculpting at my place (but you'll have to wait until after I'm done moving)

I am trained as a Jeweler, so I could make them. The problem is that I don't have a complete jewelers kit yet so at the moment I cannot I hope to have it complete by the end of the year. If it can wait that long I will do it. That way I can make them custom to what is needed.

As a Jeweler I can say that Silver Soder can withstand high heat. It takes a Propane torch to melt it, and the metal used also must stand up to that heat. So heat is not an Issue.

As I said if it can wait until I have my Kit I will gladlly do it.

Rossic

Great Ideas!

I have tried just about every houshold item I could think of.

But when you listed Jewlery and rings you rang a bell.

I have cotume jewlery rings I sell for 1.00 ea. They are metal rings and have different designs and not Initials. I will bring them to the next game day for others to look at.
I will aslo look for initial rings.

If you have Ideas post them.
Maybe we can have a work shop at my house this summer.
You can now use colored hot wax in the small glue guns and make seals for later use.

Also what works very well is if you get a couple of leather stamps...and just use that design with the wax...I have a few and will show you what Im talking about if you don't understand.. I have a dragon one and another one that I cannot remember the name of...But I will look for them. Also if you want some I can order some and give you a price to pay back if that would work also?

Anyways I don't know what they have know but I will take a look and talk to you about it soon....

Also Barry already mentioned what I mentioned...I just read that :p

You can also check any import shops that specialize in oriental goods. Many of them sell chop kits for a decent price, as well as pre made chops and seals

I'm pretty sure wax has a lower melting tempature then rubber, so you might be able to use the smaller rubber stamps you get from craft stores. They can be expensive though...

They actually sell rubber stamps with wax in craft stores. I just can't seem to find any blank stamps to carve into my own things.

Rubber stamps do work, you just have to lift them off quickly so they dont melt the rubber.

yesterday I took polimer clay and formed a couple of stamps. I need to get wax and the new hot wax sticks for glue guns and I will let you know how that works.

try Micheals for blanks or go back to kids Ideas for stamps.E-Bay also sells sheets of stamps you can block your self. Ring impressions work well. Or try polimer clay. Just remember they need to leave an impression that will fill in with wax.

I have searched the web and used your ideas, before long we will all have the seals we need.

Keep sending ideas everyone that checks this post will get the information for themselves. This is a good way ot share ideas.

Thanks

I've been trying Michaels for months for blanks and they've been pretty fruitless.

I do, however, remember a few stamp shops up here. It's just a matter of locating them again and seeing if they have blanks. The nifty thing you can do with the stamps is putting an ink inside the seal.

Now, if anyone wants some of those, poke me about it and I can make you up something once I locate the supplies. Of course, these can also get a teeny bit more complicated.

Ah Nero, you never know what skills your friends have picked up along the way. :)

you can use embosing powder and paints on your seals.

Since they now use glue guns too, YOu can get almost any color you want including matalics.

Yes this will be fun to see the seals for the houses and such.

I will watch for blank stamps on E- bay.

Also if you know who made the crests for Nero. they are large stamps and that person might know how to get blanks.

Those are also ceramic, I believe. I'll ask Ryan about it tonight.

In my searches for answers, I found you can carve erasers for stamps.

Fimo clay or Prima works well. Of course you have to bake it, but buttons and things make good impressions.

Have fun crafting.

If I was a bit more proficient in Linocut (cutting blocks of linoleum, like i did with the Ducal Guard stamps), I would offer to make them out of it. However, since the Linoeleum has a bit of give to it (kinda shift and squishes around when you work with it), it would be hard to make any sort of detail. Best to use a straight up hard surface and then etch the crap out of them. For do-it-yourselfers, I would recommend clay or ceramics. Get a nice hard kind that wont chip easily after baking: wouldnt want your stamp to break after an accidental mis-handling.

There are macquette making materials out there that is *like* clay. Its not really good for durability, though. The upside is that you can get a good amount for cheap, and its made to be baked in a home oven.

Carving rubbber would be a good idea, too. Just make sure its a nice stiff rubber, or it'll end up just like the linoleum. I would also offer up the possibility of wood burning as well. All you would need is small wood chips and a soldering iron. Careful with the iron, though, those things sting. The good thing about wood burning is that anyone with *some* sort of inclination of art skills could do it.
