For those of you who have been bumped off of PSN for the last few weeks.... Sony announced their "welcome back" package.

The details are posted here.

Essentially, once the Playstation store is back up you can pick 2 of the 5 games listed.

Options are: Dead Nation, inFamous, LittleBigPlanet, Super StarDust HD and Wipeout HD/Fury.

Do you guys think it's enough? Its certainly a good start, but I'm not certain that Sony will recover from this for a while.

Personally, I'm just annoyed that smug-as-you-please Steve Jobs isn't getting racked through the muck. Hate that guy.

No, it's not enough. Sony needs to provide a much better assurance going forward that people's personal information will be better protected, and that they will shoulder some of the responsibility in undoing the damage that their customers suffered due to their negligence/hubris. If McDonald's was involved in hundreds of patrons having their credit card information hijacked, the uproar would be enormous.

They have. This has also happened to banks and mortgage companies and the law allows THEM to offer the same credit protection services and avoid other penalties/repurcussions. Sony giving you free games is above and beyond what the law requires them to do, beyond what your BANK will do for you if they let slip your personal info and they still get hate for it. The issue is with the laws that do not incentivize the corporations that hold your personal information to invest in protecting it, and THAT is where your rage should go if I might be so bold as to offer advice.

Actually, some of the major banks offer services to help you if information ever gets stolen from their side (I know because it happened at my bank & my employer).
Granted, they are not required to offer these services, but the positive PR helps cover some of the fallout.

Personally, this is the same thing PSN is basically doing, 'Sorry this happened, we closed the gaps best we can. Here is a few games for your inconvenience.'

They have already indicated that the will be insuring people against identity theft. But, I don't know what else they could have done from a PR perspective. I might have liked a Playstation store credit, but I won't complain about the list of games.

I have been following this closely. The full list of things that Sony is doing:

1 Year Credit Protection Services (free)
2 Free Games (from the list above)
1 Weekend of unlimited Netflix downloads of a specific selection of movies (free)
1 Month of Playstation Plus (free)

In addition:
For current Playstation Plus subscribers -> 2 months additional free service
For current Qriocity subscribers -> 1 month additional free service
For PSP owners -> 1 or 2 free games (didn't pay close attention since I don't own one)

And, of course, they have significantly increased security on all online services.

Seems pretty solid to me.

yup, they just need to get the store back up & they are back in business.

I did read that Japan government is blocking them bringing service back up there until they prove their measures are adequate.

Yup. All of that was covered in the link at the top. <chuckle>

It might have been nice to just be given a credit to puchase whatever I wanted, but I'm guessing that would have been even MORE costly to Sony.

Apparently the PSN Marketplace should be up by May 24th.
