Quicksilver soldier construct questions

As I accumulate wealth I become interested in creating a few mindless golems. If I were to create a quicksilver soldier, would I need to instruct the thing in which situations it should phase certain attacks? After all, as a mindless creature it could hardly decide on its own.

I also see that the quicksilver soldier is the most popular choice for spirit storing. If I myself want to try on a fancy suit of golem armor, are there any better options than the quicksilver soldier?

You can tell the golem simple things, like "defend yourself," but I'm not sure that they can store multiple specific instructions like what to phase.

And I have several friends and team members who have stored themselves in constructs. You are immune to many things, but vulnerable to others, and can become a danger to yourself and others if subjugated. Shatters and Destoys can also be a threat to you, as can regular old weapon damage. If you cannot defend yourself from these things, it can be a walking coffin.

There are no second chances, no life spells, and fewer ways to hide. You can make yourself a target in ways you aren't now. Quicksilver soldiers require Lightening to heal, so be sure you can have a steady supply of at least the equivalent of 6 or 8 Lightening Blasts a day (just in case), not counting wand damage. Preplanning is absolutely essential.
