Science vs. Norse Mythology

I have always thought that if Creationism were to be taught in schools then EVERY creation story should be included.

When I would get to discussing freedom of religion in my Constitutional Law courses, that's what I would discuss with my students. I'd also ask if anyone minded if we opened class with a prayer, and then I'd begin: "Oh great C'thulu! Please don't eat us! (etc)"

as a Christian, I completely agree!

and that was quite funny especially the little bit of brains you could see being shaved in half by the axe! heheheh

Except Cthulhu is fictional. As an athiest you might say all gods are fictional, but I'm simply making the point that Cthulhu was never part of a real religion.

actually.......

i have a friend who knows of people who actually have created beliefs in what we would call "fictional" dieties like cthulu....like...they pray to it and stuff...so to them...cthulu is real..

I mean...you can make a god that is real to you out of just about anything i spose....Heh...

but as for a practiced religion by more than 5 fruitcakes? yeah you're right.

If you think about it, anyone can make a religion about anything.

Remember the Family Guy episode where Peter creates the Church of the Fonz?

Do you think that in the 60s people created a religion dedicated to the Beatles?

And in HP Lovecraft's stories there were religious cults that worshiped the Cthulu.

My belief is that everyone worships something, even if it is not related to a diety/ dieties.

It could be fictional people, people in pop culture, or even inanimate objects.

I have seen on TV and read in the news countless times where people love money so much that they are worshiping it.

I guess that gives new meaning to "Almighty Dollar."

Jim its totally true about the money thing..i handle money ALOT ever day..i'm a cash receipts and accounts receivable person for a big company so i see alot of checks and cash and you would not believe what some people have printed on their checks or write on bills...its.....odd....

I actually had a dollar bill that had written.

"See where George has been."

And thien it had a website.

I did not go on it, but I guess you could see people posting where they got the dollar and who they gave it to next.

That was peobably the strangest dollar I found.

Jim

oh thats the Where's George campaign...you go to the website and put in the serial number and it tracks the dollar wherever its been where people will put in the serial number...thats not too weird...some people just write things like mantras about money coming to them on their checks and cash. I never heard of such a thing..I spose if it works for someone they will keep doing it

The site is WheresGeorge.com. Really interesting. You enter the serial number, the date and place you got the bill and maybe a little comment. You can log in any time to see if anyone else has found your bill and entered it, seeing where it's gone. I haven't gone to the site in so long I don't even know if I remember my log-in. I think they do 5's, 10's and 20's in addition to 1's.
