Sir Robin Fighting Style?

So how well can the run and hide strategy work? I know that battle will not be my strong suit, no throwing skill and not much upper body, but good legs and hiding. I'm more of a role player than a hack 'n Slash in most RPGs anyways. I also think it could make an interesting character concept. I am willing to fight but...

Are there going to be big draw backs with the "RUN AWAY!" tactic?

Welcome to levels 1-5 of Alliance in a high APL game!

1-5 hell, up to the teens if you're playing somewhere like old Kzoo where 15 was often half the APL.

While you may not be particularly helpful for doing it, of course you can run away (well, not always, considering it's most circumstantial when you can ride/hide). However, one drawback in-game for you is that you rarely, if ever, get to search anything (unless you dart out into the fray to loot, then sneak back behind cover). But you can make money/get items other ways, or perhaps even your character doesn't care about wealth, so it could be not much of a drawback at all depending on how you play your character.

My character wouldn't be caught dead not looting something. He's got too much of the adventurer's spirit in him. ;)

That is pretty much the strategy I use, as my weapon (a crossbow) cannot be used in melee combat and for out-of-game reasons (bad back and ankles-old sports injuries) I can't wear heavy armor. Learning to throw packets is more about finesse than power, so I would recommend archery as a primary style. It also gives you an in-game reason to say "I'm not a front line fighter, see this bow?" and no one will give you any grief about your style. :)

Also, they are many ways to gain items instead of looting the dead.

the BEST spell in Alliance is, "I call upon the Earth to RUN LIKE THE DICKENS!" (usually followed by a shrill school-boy scream)

on another note, the Artisan class is specifically built for people who aren't as interested in Combat. you might want to look into building a merchant character or a pure academic who "adventures" in order to study the world instead of beat up monsters. you can make a perfectly rounded, fun, and interesting character who doesn't involve themselves in combat

So was Dickens really fast or something? I thought he was just a writer. :D

"Run away!" was practically my battle slogan for the first 8 years of my character's career.

Especially this one time when we were all reverted, mentally, to the equivalent age of a 12 or 14 year old human...

I barely ever run away (mostly since I am really slow and have a limp).

Fun fact - Dickens means devil. A little Dickens is an imp. Some think that it comes from the term Devilkin and the sources I find show the earliest usage in one of Shakespeare's plays The Merry Wives of Windsor (Act 3, Scene 2): "I cannot tell what the dickens his name is my husband had him of".
