Smoker's Guild

What does everyone think of moving the Smoker's Guild into that little building without a floor on the top of the hill?

That way it can be in-game, can provide cover in the rain, and can keep the smokers away from logistics and the bathrooms so as not to bother we nonsmokers who need to get there...
 
No overt objections, only the smaller size and my fear of spiders.

the only thing i would worry about is that that moves them closer to the IG area. when I NPC i have used that building for cover coming IG and heading down the hill and it is visible to the players so they would see/hear the OOG stuff from the bottom of the hill. I agree it would be nice to not have the smokers hanging out near the bathrooms cause i never know if there is a line or just people smoking, but damned if i know the best way to change things.
 
I don't recall. Is it a solid building or are the walls tent-like? I'd worry about the fire hazard if they're like a tent. If they're solid then that seems perfectly fine.

As for it being IG, it's no more so than the people who smoke on the rise in the other direction. If we use this as the only guild, it's about the same distance from the "town" so shouldn't be too inconvenient.

I guess we could conceivably move it back a bit more toward the porta johns without being right in front of them like the Guild is now.
 
My only issue with a totally IG smoker's guild is that I'll have to make a costume for my new NPC "Trollweed Thomas. " Plus I don't want to have to break up roleplay if I need my NPCs and they're entertaining the smokers IG.

Well, I was under the impression it was IG now in that PCs could remain in character, see what was going on, and could snuff out the cigarette and run into game if they wanted to. The more we keep things IG the better, after all.

The idea would be to keep battles away from there, though. NPCs should probably come from the field instead of down that hill. We need to get away from having so many battles in that area near the tavern anyway.

I'm open to suggestions; I just want to get the smokers away from the portajohns and logistics, and I thought this might be a good solution, especially since it gives them some cover as well.
 
Oh, I'm hearing ya. And I don't disagree. Just enforce a white headband rule for NPC smokers and problem solved,
 
The smoker's guild needs to be an oog area. Otherwise it's completely IG for NPCs (or heck, other PCs) to go in there and roll people and with lit cigarettes that's really not wise. Especially not in such an enclosed space. I'm not thrilled with the idea of the other area being IG either, but at least out there you have room to maneuver.

IMHO that building should be treated like a bathroom as far as rules go: it's an OOG area. You cannot attack/be attacked in there, nor can you run in there to get away from somebody IG.

Seriously though, in most of the chapters I've seen smoking has generally been OOG...
 
That "cabin" is used by the pcs most of the time (at least when I play). Having them smoke at the path by the road (where the metal gate, where they normaly do) is fine, its out side and out of the way.
 
Well, we're looking to give the smokers a place that's a little more sheltered for when the weather is less than optimal. Right now they use the overhang by logistics, and frankly for those of us who don't smoke it's annoying to have to walk through it (and for asthmatics, an actual health risk).

If folks want to continue to use the area by the gate on that high path that's fine too, but we've had a lot of complaints about the smokers outside the logistics/portajohns area so we're trying to come up with a place for them to hang out instead of that area.
 
Here's a thought what if we use one of the sillows as the smoker's place?
I like the idea of useing the cabin at the top of the hill, as far as it being IF or OOG im kinda torn. If the battle is right infront of it and you have your high lvl players taking a smoke break and well they just wope the npc's from behind seems a bit unfair. but if you keep it OOG and everyone dies, well the smokes come back in game and heals everyone and lifes them back up...there no real fun in that.

Basiclly what im trying to say is. If plot can stratigiclly place a battle away from the cabin where there is no advantage to the players or NPC's when coming out of the smokers guild, i could see it working. Put a few chars a small table a loarge bucket ashtray we'll be set

I think the torture would be from the smell and not the Ward.

Imagine having to stay in there for hours because of the RP effects of a Ward and slowly suffocating due to the smell.

Espacially if it was hot during the event. The odor would tripple and you would be baked by the heated plastic.

As for the smoker's guild, I'm not a smoker, but I don't see any poblem making it IG as long as the group in the guild doesn't get rolled.

That's the problem Jim. Saying "hey I"m in-game but you're not allowed to touch me" doesn't work.
