So, about this LARPing couple on NBC...

Talen

Adept
One of them's a LARPing guy with a law degree who runs a few games, the other is his wife who wants him to focus on getting a real job.

Mike and Heidi? Nooooo...but this pair managed not only to get on NBC's "The Marriage Ref", but ended with the $25,000 prize. Bill Maher and company berated him for not having a grip on what was important in life and the audience agreed that the idea was so nutty, she was the most right of the bunch.

*headdesk* Yes, I know em too. Someone linked me the episode and I went "Oh, gawd" followed by repeated facepalming. Welcome to the next "America meets LARPers" exposure.

I think Bill is a LARPophobe. Such vitriol. Secretly he is wearing a doublet and brandishing boffers in his backyard.

*facepalm*

I particularly liked the comment about Charlie Sheen.

When do we get the people on who are happily married, pay all their bills, both work, live comfortable lives, and also enjoy LARPing? Or what about us professionals out here who enjoy it too? Merlin's breath...

Doesn't make good television. The strange ones always get the attention.

Too true. Guess that's why I don't watch TV. ;)

So many comments come to mind...

I also think that child is going to end up lighting her hair on fire so her parents will stop arguing about it.

It's a show called "Marriage Ref". Happily married probably isn't a big part of it.

And for the record, Holly and I were in Monster Camp, there's just not a lot of entertainment in watching me read on book on the MAX on the way home. ;)

That's my favorite part of the movie.

To be fair, I think Bill was far more focused on the 'get off your arse and get a job it's been EIGHT YEARS of not working' message than anything, and in that case he is right. We all work for a living/support ourselves in addition to larp, we don't try to make it our calling and live off it. (For good reason, I've looked at the numbers lol)

I didn't say that I disagreed, just that the level of abuse he directed at LARPing in general (separate from whatever may have been deserved by the gentleman in question) was indicative of some deeper issues.

True, but his wording came off directed at LARP 'This guy has a passion for being 9 years old & living in a fort in the woods' early on. Later, he went to 'This guy has put a hobby before a livelihood.'

Ali labels the guy as 'freak' and joins in on the LARP pile on.

Patti just says 'he makes no frickin money, try to get a real job. she needs to whoop that ***.' At least she is focusing on the target; he is doing something that makes no money for 15 years...2-3 years, if it ain't making money you need to focus on an income.

Although, don't owners rake in the money? You could easily support yourself off of your LARP chapter. I remember reading on these forums somewhere that you can buy several lexi (plural for Lexus) per year...

:ninja:  :D

I think we should all write angry letters to Bill Maher telling him LARP is cool and stuff.
