was in the hospital from the 9th until today. I was experiencing extreme leg weakness and chest pain. The weakness was to the point to where I couldn't stand up much less walk at all. As it turns out I was suffering from a condition called Rhabdomyolysis. This occurs when there is severe muscle damage and the contents of the muscle cells spill into the blood stream. This can cause severe bodily reactions including renal failure and in extreme cases even death. Causes are varied but most common are cocaine use, alcohol abuse, muscle trauma such as crushing from an accident and medication reactions. Mine was the latter. I was taking three meds that can cause this problem, Crestor, Lyrica, and Niaspan.
It took a while but the causes were found and I am doing very very well. I can't run (couldn't do that anyway) but my strength is back and the meds have been discontinued. As for the chest pain; I had a nuclear stress test done (they inject radioactive dye and x-ray it while being chemically stressed) and the report is that my heart is perfectly fine no obstructions of any kind in the heart arteries so I am good to go.
Thanks for your caring and concern
