When you spell craft a ritual, it only lasts for one day, but the scroll doesn't blow up at the end. If you cast a ritual, unless something wierd happens, it goes poof afterward. Also, almost any ritual is only gonna last five days unless you use another scroll on it to make it last longer, like Extend, Preserve, or Permanence.
