Spell parry and retribution interaction

I spent some time trying to find if this had been asked already, so apologies if it has been. I've been out of the loop for several years.
Can you use a retribution to bane something you've spell parried?

In general, a skill used to fuel another skill/ability/effect can only be used to do that one thing. You would not be able to use a parry to fuel both a spell parry and a retribution. Similar to how you can not spell parry your way into a riposte.
