Starting a guild, team, group...

Hey I know I might get FOIGed for this but I figured I would ask anyways. So IG we have organizations like the Brotherhood of the Star.

Are these groups/organizations sanctioned by anything/one?

Is their a legality to starting an organization, like a business tax?

The short answer is: Yes, no, and FOIG. That's right, all three options.

Sometimes they're sanctioned and supported by larger entities, be it the Crown itself, a multi-national entity, or one noble with sufficient backing. Sometimes they're just a group of like-minded (Or similarly intended) individuals. It entirely depends on the scope of what you hope to achieve, accomplish, prevent, do, etc.

I'll leave the more detailed answers to folks who are more involved in these types of groups.

FOIG is a response I'd give when you ask an out of game question in game... FOFP is what I'd say to you: Find out from plot :P

I wanted to start a mercenary company, and have the right to resale valid licenses of mercenary. So I contacted the plot team, I sent them some information about what I wanted, and they asked me for some money to cover IG administrative costs.

I had to go to the anagraph, get my paperwork taken care of, make sure I wasn't breaking the law in any way (yes, I made sure to make that clear) and
then write a charter.

The Charter for the Higurashi no Ken isn't posted here, but a good example of a charter for another organization I'm a member of can be found here:http://www.alliance-seattle.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=3159

In the case of the Ivory Oak, the benefit is just one of reputation, and enjoyment of the meal, but that didn't require much real effort to set up (it does to cook though).

In the case of a mercenary unit, which costs more and requires more effort, the benefit might be slightly better (like being able to steal a bounty from you without getting in trouble)

The more effort you put in, the more you legitimize your claims of "fringe nobility" or "mercenary captaincy"... but even a charter doesn't do much in the face of a plot member asking how many Craftsman: Other skills you have in "fine dining" or "bounty hunter"

Spend time, spend coin, spend build. Start simple, contact plot, and keep records of what you've sent and everything you've spent.

The rest is just good RP, and persistence.

In service,
-Gideon
