Wow who can believe it’s already time for me to write this letter again, I’m not sure if anyone has ever read it (as they never get responses) but I still like to write them as it gives myself and those interested a historical look back into the history of the chapter. 2012 was an interesting year as I completed my latest degree, and started my first corporate job, and this left me scrambling for how to handle this amazing thing I had in running Southern Minnesota.
While we explored many options, happily in the end we had a strong group of staffers that stepped up to help handle things while I focused on other life goals that could no longer be put off. While it’s been a bumpy ride as life decided to happen in abundance this year, overall I am extremely proud and grateful for all the effort others contributed and give them all the credit for what we did right this season!
Thank Yous
Generally the first thing I do each year is offer thank yous to some of the people who make things possible, I could never thank everyone that helps out but I like to tag the big names for people that really help make things happen. Locally we are regrettably waving goodbye to a number of great staffers as they too must focus on other life goals, although we’ll still be seeing most of them at game. So Special thanks to former GMs Paige Hubbell and Sarah Sprague. Next up are local folks like Alexander Thompson, who has kept the lights on running our logistics fantastically for well over a year. Brent Woodward and Kristin Gates who kept our monster camp organized and our NPCs running. Christina Sletten, who has done a fantastic job keeping everyone fed on budget.
We continue to be grateful to many of our out of town folks, David Tengdin who travels from the East Coast to help run nearly every game, Stephen Stana who continues to help write engaging storylines and attend when able. Of course we are always happy to see our friends from the Windy City whose characters add so much to our game!
Permanent Site
Efforts continue on our permanent site after our first year of use, this year we started clearing our first trails, and built a fantastic firepit (special thanks to the Krebs here!) Over the off season it is our intent to finish construction on our first cabins which should help ensure we have room for our growing population.
Income/Costs
As always we watch these things closely, but I’m happy to announce that we will not be raising prices this season, and will be continuing to offer some fantastic deals to those that wish to commit to the season in advance (a savings of 20-40% depending on level!) These package deals help us plan, and say money by prepaying many of our costs in cash up front.
Our schedule for next year is currently under review, but we should see a one-day in February and a return to Camp Stearns to kick off our official season come April. We are continuing to plan for about a 6-7 weekend events a year with a bit of filler, so keep an eye for those dates coming soon!
Staffing updates
As we welcome our new General Manager Alysha Krebs, I’d like to take a moment to note that one of the best ways to ask to join staff is to find a need and offer to fill it. As a volunteer organization we are always excited to invite enthusiastic helpers onto staff to fill the roles.
Our new NPC Guild option is a fantastic way for folks interested in joining plot and helping to run games, not only do you get a great deal, but by committing to help it lets our staff know that we can safely give you a recurring character without the plotline fading out.
In sort for those who have wondered how we choose who to offer positions to, it’s almost entirely participation based, while we understand people have busy lives and want to be able to fit our tasks around that, some positions are simply better filled by folks without as many prior commitments.
In Closing
As always I want to thank everyone for their participation in this crazy ride we call Alliance Larp, I am excited to be back in a position for next year were I will be able to take a slightly more direct hand in running plotlines again (however I will not be taking over the HoP responsibilities) and hope to see everyone that can make it out at the banquet event before the cold winter months!
