State of the Chapter, an open letter to players - 2013

Wow who can believe it’s already time for me to write this letter again, as always I am happy to receive feedback, good or bad, although generally we ask that the downs are passed up privately to avoid defensiveness on any side ^.^

This was an insanely busy season for me and for most of the staff, but it's been very exciting. We've been dealing with increasing costs (like any business does I suppose) especially in our food and site fees but have thus far stayed on the correct side of the equation (losses were small when they happened which is what we call success ^.^)

Overall we are excited for next year, with a likely return and progress on our permanent site in the future although we continue to maintain good relations with other campsites in case that does not work as intended.

Finally it's amazing to see plot lines that we planted the seeds of years and years ago starting to develop into a full picture. When I wrote the plotline overview of the corrupt being damaged, I never expected to use it, instead keeping them as a background threat to flare up from time to time. You all, the players, have changed that as your march so determinedly to an end to the threat, and we on plot are looking forward to see what happens as much as everyone else!

Thank Yous

Generally the first thing I do each year is offer thank yous to some of the people who make things possible, I could never thank everyone that helps out but I like to tag the big names for people that really help make things happen. We've had a great amount of assistance, to start of course we have to note our Cook Christina, her skillful handling of the cooking is a massive weight off my shoulders and well fed players IS a safety concern that I don't generally have to worry about anymore.

Of course while he's always been a great help since he started helping with logistics, our own Alexander has really stepped up his game, helping and working more and more areas of the game as he develops both as a plot member and a manager of our game.

Not everyone who helps is a permanent member of staff, nor can they always make every game. Jack, Anthony have been great help and are learning to run modules, which frees up senior plot for oh so many things.

A special shout out goes to Teague, who worked tirelessly this year and last year, Teague and I have very different styles and I can't imagine how much patience he had to expend dealing with my story telling styles.

A final shout out goes to Emilynn as she continues to plan her move out to the West coast, she was staff and definitely put in her time and effort and we'll miss seeing her on the field. She is also one of the longest running players, and we always hate to see someone go even as we wish her well.

Permanent Site

Efforts continue on our permanent site we've rented it out to a family over the winter to help ensure it comes through in good condition and we've made big progress recently in getting the permission we need to help develop it further!

Income/Costs

As always we watch these things closely, but I’m happy to announce that we will not be raising prices this season, and will be continuing to offer some fantastic deals to those that wish to commit to the season in advance (a savings of 20-40% depending on level!) These package deals help us plan, and say money by prepaying many of our costs in cash up front. (these will be announced soon!)

Our schedule for next year is published and we very much are excited to be hosting the national event over labor day next year.

Staffing updates

We will be announcing some openings in staff positions for next year, as well as encouraging many folks to fill them (you may, or may not know who you are). To be honest 2013 was an extremely disappointed year as we had a great many of people step up to help fill some needed positions only to fail to perform (usually without actually performing any of the steps they committed too). It was rough, but we pushed on and got things done.

If you are interested in staffing PLEASE remember, if you can't be sure you can fulfill a commitment please let us know that.

In Closing

As always I want to thank everyone for their participation in this crazy ride we call Alliance Larp, I am excited for next year to see where this thing takes us!

Related to the posting above, I will be stepping down from my short stint as plot effective immediately to prevent an unfair insider advantage for next season.
