Talks around town as of April 7th

<After the defeat of the phoenix the valley becomes hushed. All Tarndalians were found to be safe from the chaotic battles that ensued from fighting the Lord of Echoes and the resulting phoenix, the Mercator’s twins were born healthy and screaming, and all are thankful for the sacrifices the adventures have given for them. “Heroes” is sometimes heard by the native population when talking to or about the brave folks that were able to save the valley from annihilation.

The dryads are regrouping from their battles with the echoes and Nahui; their troops lost many fine saplings, but persevered through the hardships. Elder Lindell expresses his people’s thanks for the help the adventurers gave to resurrect the Forest Spirit, for without the adventurers heroic acts to defeat Vedis’ his power would not have regenerated into the new Forest Spirit and the caldera would have been immolated. If it were not for the actions of the Heroes of Tarndale then everyone would have surely perished. Elder Lindell and the other dryad elders lauded every adventurer that passed them by.

The Nahui are broken. Their powers have been stripped from them, their ranks have been thinned, and their leaders have been eliminated. Those that cling to their old ways are being hunted by the remaining dryads. There are a few that seem to be repentant and they are watched carefully.

The draxians continue to slowly learn all they can from those who will teach them. They also continue to hunt the skree. Now that the Heart Drinker has been slain the Heart Tribe has reinvigorated its campaign to exterminate the skree. The Fornow tribe seems to be more interested in engaging Elder Toland and the other Tarndalians on building new barns, getting fields planted, and raising more livestock.

The phoenix is dead, the Heart of the Mountain is dormant, the Lord of Echoes cycle is broken, the Nahui’s powers are stripped and their forces thinned, the draxian are returned to being sentient, the dryads are awoken, and the villagers have been taught how to defend themselves. The valley is safe, for now.

----------------------------------------

The day after the phoenix and Heart of the Mountain were defeated, a party of three dark elves and a sarr entered Tarndale. One of the dark elves introduced himself as Lord Mage Sijik d’Reaja of the House of the Open Fist from the Denigrata Regnum. His companions were introduced as Dorian of the House of the Open Fist, Apprentice to Lord Mage Sijik, Acher of the House of the Storm Bringers, and Purdha of the River Tribe. They claimed to have entered the valley to assess the threat of the rumblings and why they saw undead fighting undead. When they learned of the illusion on the valley they seemed perplexed and concerned. They explained that the caldera is effectively a crater in the middle of a necromantically corrupted land called the Blackened Reaches. They discussed how outside the valley the dead will not stay dead; the undead roam and grow in numbers and hunger for those who still breath in the lands outside the valley. There is a pass out the North face of the valley where the dark elves, sarr, and high ogres stand vigil at an outpost to prevent what was originally perceived as the greatest influx of intelligent undead which were coming out of the valley. The illusion on the valley seems to have also fooled the undead outside the valley for there have been very few undead that have tried to pass the outpost into the caldera.

Lord Mage Sijik spends a concerted amount of time conveying his concerns regarding the power the adventurers hold. He believes it may attract the attention of the undead masses to the valley. He proposes that the Dryads and Forest Spirit will remain unnoticed due to their attunement to the land, and that the people of Tarndale and Draxians will likely remain unnoticed because they collectively have not gained significant power, and that they have a long period of learning before they gain much more in the coming years. He speaks with conviction attempting to convey that if the adventurers want to keep the valley safe, those with great power must give up their power to remain in Tarndale, or leave the valley and not return. If the majority of those who came to the valley with significant power leave the valley, those remaining will likely be able to avoid attracting the undead into the valley. Lastly he swears on his honor that those of his house will continue to maintain the outpost to keep the undead from entering the valley, but reitterates to the adventurers that leaving the valley will help keep those within the valley safest.

When asked about the Nahui, Lord Mage Sijik states that he will make a request to the tribes of Sarr that roam the Blackened Reaches to send their best into the valley, for they have waited patiently for a chance to pay penance for their ancestors who committed unspeakable transgressions. They will likely prepare an emissary from their people to come into the valley to discuss with the dryad elders and Elder Toland how they may assist in either rehabilitating the Nahui or eradicating them.

Later in the evening Elder Toland announces that a memorial will be constructed in memory of Darien, Yames, Cael, and Taloryn, depicting their likeness. The memorial will have an inscription stating, “In memory of those who would not go quietly into the night, but fought against the darkness and gave all they had. Tarndale will carry your memory.”

In the days following, whispers begin to spread about the man once known as Baron Sumner. Some of the locals are confused over why he is now being called “Sumnus”. He seems to be uncharacteristically happy when seen about Tarndale. He makes himself present and spreads information regarding the stone which was found by the group he refers to as the “the dreamers”, which seem to be the Wylderkyn, Gypsies, and Biata in the land. Gossip about town conjectures names such as Karzel, Krieger, Snows, Maealas, Lone, Sage, Loganzi, Zeth, Flynn, and Shin as being these dreamers. This man named Sumnus explains the stone object is a sign to him that the heroes he has been seeking are in this valley and the time for their departure is at hand.

Those hanging around the Meeting house notice Sumnus and Lord Mage Sijik seem to have a shared past from before either came to the valley. Rumor and gossip about the two abounds. Most notably about events that happened long ago leading Sumnus to finding someone called the founding king. Before too long though another announcement is made about how Lord Mage Sijik has promised Sumnus that he would “...respect the oaths of lost greatness, and that his people will provide protective travel for those leaving the valley with Sumnus.” The protected route he speaks of will take those following out of the valley through the Northern pass, then through the Blackened Reaches to the coasts. From there, the River Tribe of the Sarr will take the adventurers by boat over the White Sea by way of the Waupani archipelago, and lastly up the Crimson River to what remains of the once great city. The journey he details is expected to take approximately six weeks and they plan to leave in about a week’s time from the defeat of the last of the great threats to the valley.

The man now known as Sumnus speaks to those who inquire of a city he calls The Ceriopolis that once stood grand in the middle of this continent, Calliphestus. He describes it as a beacon of hope against the monstrous horde that ravages the plains of Calliphestus, and goes on to explain how the city stood in defiance of their destructiveness for many generations and ensured an age of civilization and affluence for all of the great races. He says that the stone is the sign that it is time to return to the ruins of what once was, and that now is the time to rebuild the greatness of The Ceriopolis. He requests the Heroes of Tarndale to accompany him to the ruins. He asks the Heroes of Tarndale to help relight the Beacon.>
