Targeting Spirit Links for extenders

Since it's all a tizzy now (sarcasm) and you guys are amazing and responsive (not sarcasm), might as well through it to the ARC with the understanding that you might have to check or refer to the rit committee:

Spirit Link states that it has two targets that occur simultaneously: the spirit and the "universal". Traditionally, I have seen the extension for the spirit link target the item that was being spirit-linked (allowing spirit link to be part of a larger batch of item rituals). That said, there is nothing to suggest in the ritual rules or the scroll verbiage that you cannot target the other half of the ritual's target: the spirit. The advantage here being that you get two spirit links with some form of extension for the price of one extension scroll (and possibly a catalyst).

Is the intention to have an extension be optional in this way for the purposes of spirit-link (target either the spirit or the item), be strictly one or the other (only the spirit, or only the item), or that the definition of a "batch" include the caveat that all rituals under the batch must share the same set of targets (thereby requiring that spirit links and spirit locks always have an extension all their own, since no other rituals have "simultaneous targets")?

This post is to inform you that your question is currently being discussed by the ARC and once some clarification has been made will be posted here. Depending on the level of clarification and discussion (and potential involvement of the Owners or other national staff, if needed) this may take time.

A Spirit Link does indeed have two targets, but the duration is based entirely on the extender cast on one or the other half. The second target is affected only so long as the first is. Spirit Link tags should always come in pairs, and they only *work* in pairs. This does mean that the second target becomes indestructible as a side effect so long as the primary target's extender is active.

Here's some examples. Let's say Joe has a batch cast on his spirit. It has a Spirit Link to a dagger, a Spirit Link to a rock, and a Preserve Duration cast with an expiration date of 1/1/2016.

He is then given the following:

1. A Magic Item Tag for his spirit with Spirit Link <rock mi #>, Spirit Link <dagger mi #>, and Preserve Duration ending on 1/1/2016.
2. A Magic Item tag for the rock with a mi# and Spirit Link<Joe> on it, with no expiration date shown (since it's based on the Spirit tag, not this one). Note that there is only one ritual on this Magic Item currently, not two.
2. Another Magic Item tag for the dagger, with a different mi# on it but otherwise identical.

Total of 3 tags showing 5 rituals. Only one date is given, and only where the extender is cast.

Now, let's say Bob has a batch cast on his dagger. It has a Spirit Link to Joe cast, then a Preserve Duration with an expiration date of 1/1/2016.

He is then given the following:

1. A Magic Item tag for the dagger, with a mi# and Spirit Link <Bob> on it, as well as Preserve Duration ending on 1/1/2016.
3. A Magic Item tag for his spirit, with Spirit Link <dagger mi#> on it, and no specific date given.
