Fellow Citizens,

I write you this time with a heavy heart. So many have died. The Brotherhood that I have written so strongly against has been decimated, but I take no joy in it. Thousands were sent to a deathtrap by their guild’s own leaders. After so much indecision and inaction they sent nearly all their men to battle the undead hordes with little or no chance at survival. There are those who say that this was not just poor management and overzealousness but that the battle literally was a trap, designed by Renley Firstborn and the high ranking brothers to send undead soldiers to their vampire ally. Perhaps that’s true. It’s certainly true that a great many spirits were lost that day, and the vampire’s army was stronger afterwards. Undead brotherhood men were even seen acting as captains in the undead legions, leading attacks on refugee camps.

Yet even this massacre did not stall Renley’s abuse of authority. His next order of business was to assassinate all the Regents in Wayside. Who then could stand against him? With the High Regent needed to appoint new Regents, Renley would hold all the power, which he could keep or dole out as he saw fit. With no opposing leadership his madness would go unchecked, and ally of the vampire or not, he would surely wreck havoc on our fair Wayside. Happily, his evil designs were foiled!

Some of the Regents were indeed assassinated, however Renley’s domination was incomplete thanks to the stalwart Master Eisenhorn. He uncovered the plot and actually killed himself to bring warning in time to save Regent FallingStar and rally the adventurers, led by Regent FallingStar herself, to defend what other Regents could be rescued. Without Eisenhorn’s force of will and dedication, the news would not have reached anyone in time to stop the assassinations. It is to him that we owe our thanks for the failure of Renley’s dastardly plans. He sought out the truth and then suffered death himself so that others might be saved. It was truly a noble sacrifice.

What is to be done now, you ask? Well that is a good question. Clearly Renley can not be allowed to continue desecrating Wayside. His machinations have already begun to break our spirit. I’ve heard some say that Wayside is dead & gone, that Horatio’s vision died with him. I say the essence of Wayside lives in all of us. If we choose to do what is right, to believe as Horatio did that through fellowship we can accomplish more than we could through fear, that through goodness and fairness we can make Wayside a better place…then we can cast off this shadow of corruption and find a true leader who will espouse these ideals we believe in and rule for the good of all Wayside. We need a leader who cares about the people and the land, who has the wisdom to guide us, who takes responsibility for decisions and knows that full coffers are not the real wealth of a society. Our strength is in our people, but we need a man to step forward who understands the value of sacrifice, to stand with and for the people in dark times like we face now, and who is willing to take on the burden of rule. What we need is a King, an honorable King that earns our respect. Such a King would have the love of his people, lead us out of this war and rebuild Wayside to become truly great.

Miss Thorne,

I have traveled though out many of the lands of Fortannis. When I came to Ternia I was a refugee, my homeland destroyed by Void. My family imprisoned within its nothingness and my king locked away simply because he was a dragon. I saw the lands created with the fragments of my homeland and its essence destroyed. Corruption along with pointless fighting was it's only heartbeat.

And then I came here. I saw the passion, resilience, and optimism of it’s peoples. No matter what evil beseeched their homes and hearts they never gave in. It was that glorious spirit that awakened within me my lost passions. The belief in others and of noble sacrifice.

I am finally home; I finally know where I belong.

This is my home.

You have welcomed me with such kindness. I am not sure if I can ever repay this act.

It is within the people, the spirit of this wonderful land that lives . I will do what ever I can to continue to safeguard you all. I say this because, I have lost sleep these past few weeks.

The need for a king is great, and I am so uncertain as to who to choose. We deserve a great king, one who has that spirit living within them so strongly that everyone can see it beaming from inside. In my time I have learned one thing. The true measure of a man and the magic inside lives in his heart, if we trust our hearts we will find our king.
