Good morning,
Firstly, allow me to once again offer my greatest gratitude to those brave Adventurers of Atupal that rescued me from the depths of Somewhere a few months ago. I know that my profession has its risks to my personal safety and I am willing to accept those risks, but I am nonetheless thoroughly grateful that I was not trapped longer, let alone the possibility of indefinitely, by the traitor Lokrum in that strange place.
It’s a wonder that anyone would voluntarily choose to dwell in such a landscape for long, but as we learned from my little excursion, it seems that the House of Zaal has indeed established some form of base in Somewhere in order to remain undetected. As unpleasant as Somewhere is, I will give the House credit - a place that hardly exists would indeed make for an excellent hideout. Their current position adjacent to the normal flow of reality likely gives them a unique ability to monitor, travel through, and otherwise interact with both Gavaria and the strange Encroachment Events, all while avoiding detection and interaction. However, as mortal people that experience linear time, it must be ghastly for them to reside there for any real length.
Or so I thought. Ever since I was so rudely detained, I have been devoting the majority of my time doing what I can to monitor further activity within Somewhere in order to see what I can uncover about the House of Zaal’s apparent den. My time in Somewhere was fortunate in one regard, in that that it gave me time to ascertain a much clearer understanding of the latent magic flow in that space, and in the last few days, I have managed to trace a peculiar magical signature within the realm that I’ve only encountered one other place: Gavaria.
This may seem unimpressive at first, but tracing latency native to Gavaria in a place where the typical magical and temporal latency is fundamentally different is actually quite notable. It means that there is a pocket of Somewhere where time and space function identically to how they standardly do in Gavaria, and that pocket must have been artificially created in order to accommodate ordinary mortal creatures within. I am sure you see where I am going with this: this location almost certainly must be the House’s hideout within Somewhere.
Given my understanding of Somewhere’s distorted native fields, creating such a shielded haven is a remarkable feat, and while I am certain that Lokrum’s access to Old Magic and her past experience as an urban defensive architect of Diregrasp were instrumental in its establishment, I am similarly positive that it must be fundamentally unstable to maintain. It is pushing upstream in Somewhere’s raging river, if you would. There must be an active force within their den that is supporting this safe haven, and if that force is removed, it will collapse. Needless to say, if the House’s lair within Somewhere becomes unable to sustain them, they will be forced to evacuate it and return permanently to material Gavaria, where they will be much easier to track and apprehend. I think I speak for all of Gavaria when I say that such would be ideal.
While I have yet to divine the precise location of the House’s domain itself, if we can find a means to do so and assail it, I do have some strong hypotheses on what actions could be taken to cause sufficient disruption to the location’s inherent stability, but that is a matter that would be easier to explain in person. Assuming this subject is of interest, I intend to visit Atupal on Crossing Day, where I can elaborate in further detail, and hopefully we can deal a resounding blow against the treasonous House of Zaal.
Sincerely,
August Mack
