The Impending Battle with Lord Hoarforst

Everyone,

Some of you are new to Briar Pass and others have been here since our town was founded. For those who do not know after the orc war, a flame gate opened on this plane of existence. Flame elementals spewed forth in a constant stream and it was very difficult to combat them. I do not recall who at first found the panthergast scroll that market day but, one was found. We as a town decided to cast the scroll. With the help of Tyvek: may he rest in peace and Lord Hoarfrost. We cast the scroll and at that point something went terribly wrong. I am not sure who caused the flaw but, Lord Hoarfrost possessed the panthergast and went to destroy the flame gate and the flame knight.

We did not know that the ritual was flawed at the time. Lord Hoarfrost destroyed the flame gate as planned and then vanished. The flame knight Barrithian resurrected and all seemed peaceful for a while. Then things began to go awry.

The signs were barely unnoticeable at first; a slight chill in the air, the occasional ice node materializing, we as a town did not notice because, there were other more pressing issues. I being his liege did not notice that he did not contact me directly for some time. As a Lord it is his right. Then spring did not come.

The knight of Princess Persephone asked us for our help. We aided him and freed her highness and spring began. Then it was all clear what had happened.

Lord Hoarfrost used his power to prevent the cycle from continuing, and prevented winter from ending and spring from beginning. An impromptu tribunal was called forth by her highness, Lord Galeous and other fey. A price needed to be paid. It was our ritual that had caused this mess and as is their right they demanded payment. I volunteered to take the responsibility for the whole town, thrice I was offered a different solution and thrice I refused. As a vassal I am responsible for my Lord’s actions when he is away. I have vowed to destroy his form and make right what has been wronged.

But, this is not something that I can do alone. I look to you all for you help in this impending battle. I want none of its spoils. Only to end my liege’s rein and right what has been wronged.

Liddia FallingStar

Liddia,

You seem awfully eager to raise arms to kill one you have sworn fealty to on the word of those who are likely his enemies. At what price loyalty, eh?

-Padraig

Padraig - In truth, a vassal performs as steward to both liege and land: as the feudal protector of the Hoarfrost estate she must take measures to shepherd those lands and people, even if such demands she come to blows with Lord Hoarfrost. Besides, from what I understand, Lord Hoarfrost has fallen from his rightful mind and is no better than an avalanche or an earthquake. As his vassal, Lady Fallingstar has taken it upon herself, and those who will aide her, to restore his mind to its proper course by banishing his spirit from this creature.

Padrig

Dramthin is correct. My liege has fallen from his right mind and will continue to kill those around him until his form and spirit is shattered. I have has to resurrect over 1,000 spirits whom he kept in a state of limbo within his manor. It is with a heavy heart that I take up arms against my liege.

I keep him close to my heart. But, his actions have over stepped the line. He has altered the balance, the same balance that I swore to protect. I heard rumors of ice elementals at last market day. During summer no less. I along with others close to him have tried to talk to him but, to no avail. Not a day goes by, that I do not think about this action.

Liddia FallingStar

I will have to say, that unfortunately, we will have to resurrect him to return him to normal. This is not a matter to be taken lightly, and as a squire I must seek to restore the balance of the planes. I will be researching further into Hoarfrost and who he is or was before I go into battle with him. I don't necessarily want to resurrect Cumulo's brother but as he believes... as well as I even though I thought there might be another way... there isn't, and some if not all of us must take arms against him to fix his insanity.

If you do not wish to fight... than be prepared to defend yourselves... but take heed and be careful.

Eeeegh. I hate when he does that.

But Lyddia is right. Putting Hoarfrost down is the -only- solution the fey will accept. They don't want his permanent death, which is really sort of giving, given the trouble he originally caused them. Honestly, they're not giving us any "peaceable" actions to go with, so as far as I can tell, we're going to have to grit our teeth and make it happen, as unfortunate as that may be.

Are we positive there is no other choice? I just get a strange feeling that we are missing a very big piece of the puzzle and we are running head on into the night. I know I'm not a seasoned adventurer but this troubles me...even though it doesn't take much. HAHA! I just want to be sure that we sought out all the info we need before we do something rash.

There is no other way to get his spirit out of this body? You said he is an ally trapped in this form didnt you?

Prophetes,

I will meet with this one.

Of course, Galeous. I'll arrange for his arrival next market day.

...Pack your coat, kiddo. You're going to need it.

This is the only option. If there is another option I would like to know it. Sea Azaka if there is anything that you or anyone else can think of please let me know.

Liddia FallingStar

I too wondered if there were other options, and I can promise you, I did not want to sully my hands with the blood of another individual were it not necessary.

I have spoken to the fey of the courts in question. I have tried to find another option. They will accept none. They want his death, and I am not kidding when I say they are being kind by asking only for his ressurection, and not his permanent death. The fey do not take kindly in anyone meddling in their affairs or their seasons.

Liddia has done all she can, and they have left her with no other course. This is going to be hard enough on her as it is, I do not see the harm in aiding her in her task.

If you are so concerned about repercussions, perhaps it would be best to talk to Hoarfrost's own brothers. I can tell you that those I have spoken with agree that he needs to be stopped. I'd even imagine that they would help us -- perhaps not directly, but indirectly. Those of you that hope to be or are squires to the other brothers should see what knowledge and help can be gleaned to give us a better idea as to what we're up against, and what help we have.

I will do my part by trying to clear my inner eye, and see what I can about what is to come. I have been so focused lately on Tharg --- the Hero -- that I could probably do well with changing my Sight's scope. Perhaps it will allow me some peace from the horrendous visions and terrors that plague my dreaming.

Even now, as I try my best to keep stable here in the Dreaming, to share with all of you, I can feel my tenebrous hold slipping... the shadows lurk all about us, my friends. I spend too many nights without sleep or waking in screams, sobs and tears to be able to be much use to anyone, I fear. It makes me... distracted.

So accept my apologies in advance if I seem even more strange than usual.

There's so much blood... I --

[...and then nothing, as if she were awakened or had her consciousness shifted elsewhere.]
