The Library System

Knight
As part of a way to increase the realism of the world. We've created a robust library system for those who are interested in doing research in to a topic as part of an IBGA or during an event. (IE NPCing while your character looks into a topic).

We have a list, some of which have already been revealed on the in game board. Some of which is secret.

Libraries have 7 stats that dictate the kind of information in each. Stats range from 0 to 5. Or Horrible, Bad, Poor, Average, Good, Great.

Biographical - How much the library has about specific people. Libraries with a 5 in Biographical can tell you who was at a battle. While a 1 can speculate if there was even a battle at all. The higher the number the more specific information available about a person.

Modern - How much recent history is kept in the books here. Recent events can be anywhere from a year ago to the past 50. You can find information about the current state of the kingdom with a high modern stat. The higher the number, the more up to date the information is.

Historical - Covers older events. Ancient battles, old kings, etc. Historical libraries have lots of ancient information. While libraries with out a high historical score have no ancient information. The higher the score the more accurate and older events are documented.

Global - How much knowledge is contained beyond the immediate area? A 1 is almost none. You can find just basic information about the area and that's all. A 5 will have information about all of Kundrik.

Magic - How much information on magic is there in this library? A one means the library doesn't even have a full spell book. A 5 means it has ritual scrolls, ancient incantations, instructions on casting different types of rituals.

Material - Represents things like crafting, buildings, mining. The opposite of magic. The physical pieces of the world. A high number means advanced farming, construction, and crafting techniques can be contained in the books here. A 1 will have none of those things.

The 7th stat is hidden. It covers a specific area but, players will have to figure out what that area is in game.

Libraries may also have special modifiers in specific areas. IE This library is a 5 when researching undead.

Library stats combine to produce results.
A Library that had 5 magic and 5 material would be a great place to look up artifacts at.

A library that has a 5 in Historical and Biographical would be a great place to look up stuff about an ancient hero.

If you're interested in using a library you'll have to be able to specifically name it or describe where it is at. All towns have a minor library that have a 1 for every stat except the hidden one and global. Those are zeros. If you can't provide the location of the library, you'll have to use a minor library. Players who donate money, or books found in game to a library can increase a library's stats over time.

EDIT: Also, your character must have Read and Write to take advantage of this system.

I love it.

Really cool idea guys!

It sounds to me like you are inviting the wrath of a third round of IBGAs from those of us who have already submitted our two winter ones ;-)

Joe

Does the player now have to have educated to take advantage of the system? in the 2.0 rules?
