The Mercenaries of Harbors Far

We remember the day.
It was a beautiful day in Harbors Far. Most were. El-Regar (the zaratan upon which our keep and town resides) usually stayed to the warmer waters. We were passing closely to a landform we expected may be plentiful for foraging. Those of us here now were chosen for the foraging party. Out of necessity the men of our township are fierce warriors. With constant attacks at sea from pirates and on shore from monsters as we foraged we have grown accustomed to protecting ourselves from danger.
The journey that day was successful but as we returned to the shores from which we had departed we found our home was under attack. Pirates had crashed ashore and were burning our village as the remaining men hurried the townsfolk into the keep. We dropped everything leaving immediately to aid our fellow statesmen. As we rowed out to the shores of our beloved Harbors Far we prepared for battle but none of us were prepared for what happened next. A man in black robes strode forth from the ship onto the sands of our beloved El-regar’s back. He faced our keep and burning township, looked to the sky, and stretched out his arms then with an incantation everything disappeared.

This world is mad.
A year ago today our world changed forever. After being separated from our homeland and our brethren for longer than anticipated we change our title from soldiers to mercenaries. We have searched every coast but to no avail. We stumbled unknowingly through the mist. We must adapt to this world and so we adopt a trade long questioned by our culture and we adopt it only out of necessity. We haven’t given up hope on finding Harbors Far again, but we must accept the reality that we will be in these lands for a while.
The lands here are vast and outside of the guard of civilization corrupted beings run rampant. We can’t keep moving and establishing our camp in the wilderness. That would be certain death. We have chosen to settle here near the area formerly known as Fort Miller. Hopefully our services will be useful to some of the locals as the other adventurers seem quite handy themselves.

We carry on through the pain.
I still feel the pain of that day. We all do. Pirates had long wanted our homeland for their own and it seemed they had achieved their goal. Without a home to return to we went back to shore and have been roaming the lands ever since. Where ever Harbors Far ended up we know our brethren fought til’ their last breath. We only wish that if that were the case we could have fought alongside them. We may never find our home again but we will carry on. Our community will be missed. The entire town had a profound sense of community not found among the tribes of this world. In time and with the gods willing we will learn the fate of Harbors Far. For now we simply carry on in the spirit of Harbors Far. Our legacy will live.
