The Midnight Marauder Strikes Again!

Sitting in a tavern, waiting for your midday meal, you notice an issue of The ABCs of Adventuring. While you sip on your chosen drink you reach for the paper and read the front page:

In the shadowy corners of Rooks Alley, the Nightmare Avenger has left his unmistakable mark yet again. Two minor nobles, bound and posed provocatively, were discovered, a grim testament to the vigilante's artistry. Adding to the intrigue, the bodies bore unique sketches that, in a macabre gallery, mirrored others depicting the Emerald Procession victims from Paupers Launch. This has become the vigilante's eerie "calling card," each victim adorned with a distinct drawing representing one of the 25 deaths from that tragic incident.

The Emerald Procession, a dark chapter when the Emerald Guard forcibly cleared Paupers Launch prior to the Princess' visit, resulted in the demise of 25 individuals. Despite Lord Montague's swift response, condemning multiple guards to the Cage and others to the ultimate penalty, a lingering sense of injustice persists. The Nightmare Avenger, now responsible for 23 victims, appears to be the voice of those who believe that justice has not been fully served.

No one connected to that fateful outing remains untouched. Nobles, guards, Earth's Chosen, even a Master at Arms — all have fallen under the vigilant gaze of the masked avenger. Opting for non-lethal force, the avenger seems intent on raising awareness among those untouched by Lord Montague's judgment. However, a growing faction questions the intentions of this "Nightmare Avenger," wondering if, instead of justice, they are sowing chaos and insecurity.

The ABCs of Adventuring brings you an exclusive statement from Knight-Captain Wraithana of the Emerald Guard:

"Threats to the crowns of Rathfall have never been higher than in the past 3 years. Multiple assassination attempts on the Rumill family have occurred including a very public one on the Princess during last year's Gala event. That specific assassin was later found to have ties to Pauper's Launch. When the Princess made the decision last fall to have an impromptu visit to Pauper's Launch at the behest of an Unbounded, it was our duty to ensure she was safe with the minimal time given. Once the Emerald Guard arrived, dozens of Launch inhabitants refused to leave the visiting area, many becoming loud and aggressive towards our presence. After ignoring our decree, the Emerald Guard acted and forcefully removed all potential threats from the area. While the Guard does not seek to treat every city engagement with such finality, our escalated response was done so out of concern of safety for the Princess and the Emerald Guard themselves. We regret any life taken on that day. The masked vigilante that is terrorizing the Emerald Guard for carrying out their duties is a coward and a threat to the ongoing safety of the city. We expect to arrest and bring them to justice soon.”

The ABCs of Adventuring will be following this story closely, stay tuned for any and all developments!
