The pen is mightier

So I want to do some IG writing at events and I figured a bic would look out of place. What kind of pens exist in Andar?

I really want to avoid ink and quill. I figured that would be okay since the earliest record of a reservoir pen was around 10th century.

What kind of pen do you use or have seen used?

Am I reading too much into the details? :)

I have also seen some one take the guts out of a Bic and shove it in a feather.

Instant ball point quill.

I've seen pens stuck inside thin pieces of bamboo/reed from a craft store before.

As an aside, I've thought it would be awesome to have a pen IG that has 'Shatter 1/Day" just to prove, that the pen is indeed mightier than the sword.

I use a mix of different pens, but the nibs, points, angle of cut.... it's not nearly so problematic as the paper I chose to write on :D

The more authentic your paper, the closer you should get to a ballpoint-in-a-primary quill, if only to save yourself the headache of your school nib catching in a fiber and bleeding an insane amount of ink all over the trollspires of northern Rynda....

Mostly I use a light natural vellum or a grey. I use chestnut ink for maps, sable for most script. Im fine with a school nib from any old calligraphy set, but for making props, I use a doubleheader. It's capped at either end by felt tip markers. One's a fine point, the other is a chisel.

These let me mass produce things off camera, so I spend less time IG with chestnut ink on my face. I can find an ink to match the doubleheader, get the right size nib to match the "manufactured" script, and then finish up the document while in game, so it looks like I've been working a lot harder than I really have been.

maybe ;)

I can be an RP nerd about things like this too, so I bought an IG pen for my character to use. I went down to Pike Place Market in Seattle and bought a pen from a stall there, it's an ink-well style nib made from filigreed gold with a wood body, I'm sure some of these guys have seen it. The vendor didn't have a website so I can't direct you there, though art supply stores may have something closer to what you're looking(I didn't relish the idea of writing with a quill either). The pen I bought is re-fillable, either by using a plunger the vendor provided me with and re-filling the container inside the pen or by buying replacements from an art-supply store.

Badgers Den - a LARP supply/costume and various other sundries vendor carries some pens that you may be interested in using.

As a side note: I know the owner personally. She is a great person and the items she carries are really nice. In fact Cymryc and I buy quite a few larp'ing things from her often. Her feather pens I have seen in person and have witnessed people using them in another larp we play in.
