weapons and armor question

Question on weapons and armor
can they be bought online from a store that sells letex or foam swords. and if so what regulations are in effect for them. and what is a good place people seem to get there swords from.
also what is a good place to get armor from i am looking for a roman leather lorica segmentata style. not intenting to buy now but in the near future so when i get enough experince larping to start a char. as with a darken black corithian helmet. thanks for any information i can get.

As for buying latex weapons online they still have to (mostly) conform to boffer standards. There's an official post about it somewhere in the general section ... I'll see if I can dig it up for you.

The NJ chapter actually has a pretty good list of ones that they've tested that will pass, and some others that they haven't physically gotten their hands on yet but are likely to pass given the specs listed.

They still need to have a minimum of 5/8" of foam on the striking surface, and generally speaking look for fairly simple designs that don't have a lot of thin protrusions.

If you a latex weapon online you are interested in, post a link or picture and we can let you know if we THINK it will pass. If it's one someone has already brought in and had passed, we can give you a definitive answer.

Stay away from Calamicil. They are beautiful, but not made for our game.

Forgotten dreams and most of the stuff in Museum Replicas will pass. And remember, you can't thrust with a latex weapon.

The other option is to come and play and check out some of the latex weapons people are using to get an idea. If you are NPCing, you don't need to bring your own weapons as they will be provided. We can also likely provide loaners to the first time PC as well.

And Warlords Crusade makes great stuff at reasonable prices. I don't know if I'd call the owner cool though ;)

as for armor i was thinking of this http://www.ioffer.com/i/ARMOR-ROMAN-LEA ... -206058926 style or this http://www.by-the-sword.com/acatalog/Le ... -2450.html
if anyone knows a good place to get the style at i looked at http://www.Warlordscrusade.com and wasnt inpressed with the peice they had

Ezri if you could find that for me i would apeshiate it
and btw do i need to come up with a name while i npc or just when i am ready to pc... looking to play some kind of soldier warrior class... not sure on what race to play...not sure what suits me best yet. tossing the idea of a dark elf or human but reallu got deicded either way yet.

oh snap... lol

Yeah traditionally the BP's i make are the Musculatas on my site or these listed on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Greek-Roman-SCA-Med ... 25658e882a) The Lorica I have made are custom pieces. It would be a 10/12 oz thick, hand molded/cut, beveled, edged, hand died and buffed. Also Semi hardened using tradition water heating technique. Traditional piece of Leather armor, made and as durable as they did 2k years ago.

but not as cheap as the one you linked im afraid. Gl with whatever you decide :)

My suggestion is not to purchase a weapon online. If it fails the safty check, there's not really any way to modify it.

I haven't yet learned how to make any weapons other than crossbows but there are several people here who can help you make a decent sword.

Edit:

To clarify, don't purchase a weapon online from someone who doesn't play at HQ. If someone here has a buisness in making weapons for larp or wants to sell you one, it would be safe to guess that if they are building them specifically for HQ safty, it should pass.

thanks ,man i will prob look around and see the styles made at a weekend event and go from there.. see if i can get some help on making a certain style.. is there a way to make a flat bladed one instead of the trad. rounded that would pass

Those swords will likely pass, but no promises. As long as the foam is soft enough, they look okay.
