White Flags

Rogue
Gathered Adventurers of New Acarthia:

It is possible that ogres from the Skullhammer Tribe bearing word from Chieftain Skagrack may come into New Acarthia bearing the white flag of truce and parlay before them. Should anyone encounter a group such as this, please respect the time honored traditions of the symbol of the white flag, and stay your hands in attack or provocation. Listen to the ogres' message, and if they bring word from Chieftain Skagrack, please escort their party to me, or to Sir Eldred Morningtide of Tiatar if I cannot be found.

By way of general edification, many ogres hold their sense of personal honor to be paramount. The Skullhammer Tribe is well known for its honorable conduct and willingness to hold true to their word even through adversity. It has been my privilege to face two ogres from this tribe in honor duels, including Chieftain Skagrack himself. It was my greater boon later to clasp hands with that chieftain in peaceful negotiation and parlay. If the war of the past eight years were fought through a thousand skirmishes, then peace equally may be forged in a thousand different ways. Straightforward, honest dealings with those who will return the same to us, such as the Skullhammer Tribe, may be one of our best opportunities to end these struggles.

If anyone wishes to know more information about this situation, and Acarthia's recent history with Chieftain Skagrack and the Skullhammer Tribe, please seek me out in person at court. I would be delighted to share the details of this with anyone who takes an interest in these circumstances.

Intrepid Adventures and Citizens of New Acarthia:

I wish to refresh familiarity with the original message to which I have tacked this more recent one. There may be ogres and high ogres traveling singly or in small groups coming into New Acarthia peacefully, seeking parley. Please make no aggressive moves toward bands of traveling ogres or high ogres, and speak with them to discern their identity and intentions. These are the names of some, but not all, of the tribes whom we seek to greet with open hands when they arrive -- and names of those who have treated with them previously whom you may wish to alert to their presence:

Skullhammer - Baron Morningtide of Tiatar, Dame Katherine of Acarthia
Thunderfist - Baron Morningtide of Tiatar
Mountain - Rivervale
Dark Moon - Warchester
Ironblade - Scions of Valarion

As a reminder, the ogre tribe known as Dargok's Chosen have shown themselves to be honorless at the least, and possibly even necromancers. They are the willing servants of our enemy, Dargok the Unkillable, and enemy to their own people against whom they have acted with deception most foul, breaking customs of hospitality honored by all people whether within woods or city. If ogres identify themselves as Dargok's Chosen, there is no parley to be had, they are here for our heads and it is theirs that will fly instead.

Again, if any wish to know more of Acarthia's recent history with the various ogre and high ogre tribes, please seek me out at First Court. It would be my pleasure to speak of such matters with you to better inform our adventuring populace of the situation around us.

P.S. I have been asked to clarify that the Skullhammer, Thunderfist, and Dargok's Chosen tribes are ogres. The Mountain, Dark Moon, and Ironblade tribes are high ogres. The difference between these very distinct races is immediately apparent in the shape of their face and ears if you but glance at them. Make no mistake, however, there is no distinction in the intelligence, wisdom, wit, or capability which you can expect from either group. The local ogre tribes know formal magic, and have a refined sense of honor. Further, if it needs to be said, the term "low ogres," or "lowgres" as sometimes abbreviated, is an insult; say it to an ogre at your own peril.

Just shuffling this old letter to the top of the postings. Around the autumn, I expect that Acarthia's friends in the Skullhammer Tribe might be coming into New Acarthia soon.

It has been awhile, so I am once again shuffling this notice of ogres carrying white flags to the top of notices.
