Dual Schooling

So, I've made the decision for my current character to dual school scholar and I'm looking to get some advice/opinions about the best way to do it. I'm getting close to my first 9th in celestial, and won't hit my choice until I hit a four column. With that said I see two possibilities.

A. Gain formals in my primary for the RP of rituals and the benefits of High Magic (specifically I want Oak of the Arcane. I know. I'm weird.)

B. Get First Aid, Healing Arts, and start working on my Earth column. After I column out both, slowly raise my formals in both simultaneously.

I'd love to hear what some of our elder spellslingers think.
 
I went with buying enough formal in the primary (celestial) to wear a 30 point arcane armor, have a 300 point elemental burst pool for the +3 wand damage, and cloaks to match my 9ths.

Then I started buying an earth shrub. The earth shrub gets super fun to play with, super fast. I started with 2 first level earth spells, and I've used those every single day. I'm building out a small earth shrub - probably just a 3/2 for now. But even a couple cure lights and endows makes you feel really versatile. Especially if you hate carrying things like potions :-)
 
I asked myself a question a long time ago:

"Would you prefer to have a 12 Column in one, or a 4 Column in both? Would you prefer to have 10 Formal in each, or 30 Formal in one?"

At the end of the day, I like having a larger quantity of resources over versatility when it comes to spell-slinging, because it means that I can last longer in a fight.

Also, its way better to have 12 Prisons/Deaths than 4 Deaths and 4 Prisons, because defenses.
 
You might consider going wide pyramid in the second school. 87654321 earth gives a celestial scholar lots of versatility and costs way less than a second school 4 block.
 
It's really a roleplay goal my character has, more than combat efficiency. I wouldn't have spent 80 build on Scroll Crafting and Craftsman if I really cared about combat efficiency. XD

I eventually do want to go 4 column both, and formal in both... just not sure if I should formal up one before going column spells in the other.
 
The hardest purchases will be the 9th level earth spell slots at 10 build a piece. I would recommend getting those as soon as possible, so that you're not stuck waiting an entire year between each new skill.
 
Honestly, the more efficient in play way would be to push up the Earth tree first, after picking up a short pyramid in Celestial so you can use pretty much all the scrolls you'd ever want to supplement your Celestial side while you wait for build.

Honestly, I'd just do this.

Figure out an "End Game" build.

When you have build, figure out if you'd rather have X at the next event, or Y.

I personally prefer small bits of constant growth, because then I always feel like I have something new to play with.

This is how I feel about shifting slowly from Fighter to Scout. Back Attack here, Back Attack there, maybe some alchemy...
 
I hope you don't end up regretting the shift. I found Scout to be really, really mediocre.

Backstabs and profs just aren't different enough to change the feel of the class. I found Scout played as essentially a rogue who had distractions from what he should be doing in a fight, and all the profs could just as easily be replaced by a damage aura without spending the build.
 
Honestly, Ben, try playing and NPC with the split you want. It's not entirely like being a PC but it can give you the feeling of "is this something I really want to play permanently?" I have found NPCing helps me figure a lot of things out about things I'm not comfortable with playing. Just a thought.

Edit: Sorry this thought was because I JOAT with my primary and now I regret it. It came all form IG roleplay but now I hate having the spread. I wish I had just focused on something and stuck to it. I guess I'm just warning you to try something before you sentence yourself to it.
