Back in the early nineties (maybe late 80's) I remember a group of players visited NERO MA, in Ware, and basically did a town wipe. I was a brand new to the game -had NPC'd one game, so I had no idea what was going on. But I was just thinking about it. Does anybody know what I'm talking about? What happened?

Really ancient NERO history question

Well, if it is the event I am thinking of, well, it was not one group, but 3-4 who had been accused of cheating by the owner, Ford. They got their Nobility statuses yanked, and they began 'new' mercenary groups. Phoenix, Anvil, and another group that escapes me, popped the wards of the current nobility, the Earth guild, and the Celestial guild, and were on their way to pop the Ducal household when all hell broke loose. There was PvP fights most of Saturday morning, going into the late afternoon. The trial for those shenanigans lasted forever. It was one of the biggest PvP fights I have ever been in, and I have been in a few. 100+ people on 100+ people and there weren't a lot of slouches on either side. The NPC's sat back and watched for the most part, the weekend plot was thrown away.

My memory of all that is a bit sketchy. I know Phoenix was a fairly mercanary group founded by Calenel after the Goblin War event which was before we ever got to Ware (I remember distinctly C.R.I.P.S. rolled into it). I remember the key players that got caught in that scandal, and the biggest impact was not the nobles who were stripped, but the fact that all game items in the chapter were destroyed, and the whole tag system started from scratch. The real legacy for NERO was the expiriation of all game items started after this.

So I just saw this post and it brought back a huge amount of memories... I was there. I was on one of the Baronial teams (Westmarch) and was caught up in the massive PvP event. I know a lot about what happened that day that was never really public knowledge and what happened in some of the back rooms. There was a massive amount that lead up to that day and just as much fallout afterward. In a lot of ways the actual player-vs-player event was just the culmination of a bunch of out of game things that finally boiled over
