The Alliance wanted to get the all the chapters involved in setting up a big event where all chapters have a storyline they wanted players to experience, not just to their local players. It's a nice way of sharing plot ideas with chapters we normally don't get a chance to go out and fly too...

Good old lucas has nother trick up his sleeve, besides the new cartoons coming out there's also going to be a live action TV show of Star Wars coming in the future. I just read an article with him mentioning it no less than 10 minutes ago.
