2014 Ducal Tournament Events

Or players could treat tournies the way they actually did in the Middle Ages where wars would stop for these things. Use your skills, compete to your fullest... Let the people who aren't on the teams be the ones who solve the weekend plot on tourney weekend while you get glory on the field.

Tourney events are usually where the big guys get to compete and shine. Let the people who haven't "made it" yet handle the weekend stuff.

If ever there is a time to reverse metagame HQ's tourney events are the ones to do it. The only people who like our tournies are the competitors, and even then it's far from 100%.

If you're on a tourney team, devote yourself to that. Ignore things you might normally jump on, use your per-days, give the people who're not competing a chance to shine.

Speaking as a spellcaster, I always am sad when spellcaster events get removed.

I have no problem using my skills in them, as it's once a year for one day, and I find it really fun. Yes it favors bigger blocks, but fighter competitions favor heavier hitters. Scholar competitions actually have the lower level people be more deadly than a comparable low level fighter, as they have the same knock outs as the bigger guys, just less of them.

The "massive melee" caster duels are fun, but the most fun I've ever had was a ladder style 1 on 1 tournament that Caldaria ran a few years ago.

I'm sad I can't make it to the event otherwise I would sponsor the competition myself.

Anyways, to all who go, there's no reason you can't put together some kind of informal competition yourselves, if nothing else put a buy in with payout favoring the first 3 finishers to fund your own reward.

Have fun!

Toddo, I understand what you are saying, but the world physics where skills are strictly "per-day" scuttles allot of the train of thought I would need to take to get where you are pointing at.

Yeah, I'm gonna need ya to untangle those metaphors before I can respond. If you can't state something in plain language, dressing it up in misused words doesn't make it more clear. :)

I bet you could get it if you tried harder but let me help you Toddo.

In the game world the laws of physics per se state that relevant abilities are only available a limited number of times per day.

The real world where Tournaments stopped wars did not have skills that only worked a limited number of times per day.

The more I delve at this to worse of an analogy your linking Chivalric tournaments to Alliance tournaments looks.

Enjoy Toddo.

Some people don't mind using per day skills in a tournament.

Joe, what I'm reading is you are in the other camp, where you DO have a problem using those skills.

That's really what it seems to come down to. I'm a "skill user" I like the challenge.

Neither camp is right or wrong. However one camp seems to have killed the HQ Spellcasters tournament, so that's sad and I feel an overstep. You can have a great tournament for both types of people, but acknowledging they exist and letting them both exist instead of trying to "win the over" to your side will allow everybody to put energy into the real point, which is having fun.

Also, lets all play nice or I'll take out the happy recharge kitty.

No need to start insulting and hurting people in real life over a game of make-believe. Rather, if you don't like something, change it. You certainly have the power to.

Plot has stated that they are not holding spellcaster based events. There's no reason why the players, if you are so inclined, can't hold one themselves. This is a great opportunity to IC initiative and cooperation to drive some cool stuff in game.

Plot certainly appreciates that so many people have impassioned feelings and opinions about the tournament, and we certainly love to hear them! However, I wish to remind everybody that this is indeed a fictional world we're playing in. There's no need to become hostile or aggressive towards our friends over it. The point of Alliance is to come together to have fun and be all that we can't be; let's not become mean or angry with each other.

Please, I invite all civil discourse to continue, but leave any personal digs and snide remarks aside. They're not helping us create a more enjoyable environment here.

Thank you.
