Here's a preview to tide you over. Did you know that the superlative masters of 2-handed weapon fighting in Acarthia come from Warchester? The best of the best train with the high orcs of Korgel's Forge in the southern part of the Barony of Warchester....

Korgel's Forge
Baronial Estate
Owner: Baron Duer Osborne
Steward: Mar’Na Shar
Primary Economy: Weaponmaking, Martial Training, Trade, Blacksmithing Products

The youngest estate in Warchester, Korgel's Forge is known for making polearms. Glaives, guisarmes, spetums, and ranseurs are specialties. Korgel's Forge also specializes in lances and spears utilized by the cavalry of both the ducal and baronial armies.

Many of the hands that craft those weapons are high orcish, and thus the local society is somewhat different in culture both from the rest of Warchester, and even the high orc homeland in Yath-Korgon. The high orcs from Korgel’s Forge recognize the value of craftsmanship and thus its blacksmiths hold the place of highest honor among their people. Those who wield the weapons are second in esteem. High orcs here have an unusually high literacy rate among their community. Its journals of blacksmithing techniques and martial techniques with two-handed hafted weapons in particular are the pride of this community. The branch of the Baronial Loremasters Guild is run by high orcs, and serves largely to collect the stories and teachings of the high orcish people.

The Masters at Korgel’s Forge are said to be willing to take students of any race who can meet their strict standards of Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit. Elderly high orcs who have mastered the fighting techniques taught by the Masters of Korgel’s Forge are highly revered for their wisdom and strength. Some say that Master Tu’Marg may be approaching 85 years old! Students of the Masters at Korgel’s Forge may be recognized by colored sashes crossed in an X over their chest.

Great festivals occur in Korgel’s Forge in April and November each year when the Masters hold official testing for the students in tournament style. The Masters offer public demonstrations of their skill at this time, much to the wonderment of onlookers! Business is good for the blacksmiths during the tournaments, and many merchants and traders choose these times for negotiations with the crafters in and suppliers to Korgel’s Forge. For this reason, the Merchants Guild of Warchester keeps a permanent guildhouse in this estate, overseen by Wildon Transom. The Tratheon Family of merchants also has an office here, and Todd Tratheon is the first to visit the forges early every morning to inquire about new availability of goods.

In October, while other Warchester neighbors celebrate the Feast of the Dead as a harvest festival, it is a third tournament of sorts in Korgel’s Forge. Masters, students, and all practitioners of a warrior’s arts here invite the spirits of the dead to duel with them one more time. Some do this to settle open debts. Some offer the opportunity to the dead to avenge themselves, or release the anger that keeps them waking. Others do so simply for the sheer glory of competition. They say that each year, intelligent undead oblige quite willingly.

As for the name, Korgel, it was said that he was a legendary dwarven smith and local hero, who chased away many monsters within his beloved estate, of which he was a local official. He built a forge into the side of a hill and took on several non-dwarven apprentices for a moderate fee. Some say it was Korgel who invited the high orcs to make camp here, impressed with their passion for blacksmithing as an art. To this day, dwarves and high orcs local to the area treat each other as neighbors and fight shoulder-to-shoulder when need be, however wary each of their communities may be about untested travelers who visit the area only for short periods of time.

Rumors vary as to Korgel’s current existence. Some say he is somewhat of a hermit, living on the outskirts of the estate in dangerous territory. Other rumors say he actually died many years ago. Locals point out the strange forging sounds coming from his hill all hours into the night.

The architecture of Korgel’s Forge reflects an unusual blend of cultural influence. Most buildings are made of stacked and carved stone in the Warchester tradition. High orcish influence inspires larger than ordinary doorways and arches, often decorated with long fabric curtains, dyed in bright colors. This estate sees a great deal of trade with Andira in eastern Warchester, and its dyers there. On a windy day in warmer weather, a traveler can see the bright curtains of Korgel’s Forge flowing in the wind from down the road leading into the city.

Enjoy!
