A note on Haberdashery

wow... and I could have sworn it was about hats...

Then what's a hat maker called???

wiki-

Obsolete meanings of the term "haberdasher" refer to a "dealer in, or maker of, hats and caps".

it used to be a term for hat maker, thus the joke at the end of spinal tap...

"if you could have any other job in the world what job would you like to do"
"any job?, well that's easy I'd like to be a haberdasher, or maybe a chapeau shop owner"

the reason it is funny is he lists 2 jobs but really they are the same job.

language changes all the time. you were both right HEHEHEHEH

hab·er·dash·er
Pronunciation: \ˈha-bə(r)-ˌda-shər\
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English haberdassher, from modification of Anglo-French hapertas kind of cloth
Date: 14th century
1British : a dealer in notions
2: a dealer in men's clothing and accessories

I prefer this definition...."a dealer in notions"

"excuse me ma'am but could I interest you in the notion that perhaps your dress makes you look like 10 pounds of potatoes in a 5 pound bag? I can sell you this cheap..today only just $12!"
