Alliance Seattle Rules Issues: 2/11

Good evening,

After much consideration and discussion between the Marshals, Alliance Seattle is going to hold to the following rule until stated otherwise:

Physical Roleplay in combat is strictly forbidden.

Our reasoning is that (a) it can be very difficult due to the pressure of the group to refuse Physical Roleplay, especially for the less outspoken among us; (b) it can lead quickly to greater safety issues; and (c) in the chaos of large battles at night it can be difficult to try and find out exactly what is and isn't appropriate for a specific person when necessary.

Thus, no matter how well you know someone or whether you have agreed with them ahead of time that it's "ok", for the time being all Seattle Marshals will consider *any* physical roleplay in combat to be a combat safety violation.

At the Feb. 2011 event, we had a lot of issues with this and numerous safety complaints. Much of this (though not all) stemmed from people trying to stop/intercept people under a Fear effect. Many people do not seem to know what Fear does. It forces you to flee the person who Feared you and break line of sight, but once there you don't need to continue fleeing (you are of course free to RP your fear however you like). This means that in many cases, people who were trying to physically restrain those under a Fear actually made it take *longer* before they got cured, because they prevented them from breaking line of sight to the person who Feared them in the first place.

As an additional rules reminder, people need to slow down their three-counts. It's supposed to be 3 full seconds, not counting through it as fast as you can. Remember as well that potions take as long as it takes to RP drinking it down, with a minimum of three seconds. They are not an actual 3-count on their own.

Finally, please keep in mind that armor refitting and first aid should be roleplayed, and it should be obvious to an onlooker which you are doing.

Thanks
