April 5-7 2013 weekend event info

Hi everyone,

There are few bits of information that we wanted everyone to keep in mind when making in-game plans for our upcoming event: Mirror, Mirror.

First and foremost, this event is NOT taking place in Landfall, it is taking place in a town called Darkened Vale, so things like locations of circles, for example, will be different.

Second:
We were originally wanting to have opening at 21:00 (9pm) with a hard lay-on at 22:00 (10pm), but I've heard from a few players that those times might be too early because of travel time to site. So for right now, we are going to go for opening at 21:30 and lay-on at 22:30/23:00. There's some pretty specific information that will be going out, and it's important to us that as many characters are ready to go at once as can be. Lots of you have to travel a long way and put on lots of make-up and prosthetics, and we'd hate for anyone to miss out on the opening few hours.

Third:
Travel to Darkened Vale takes about 12 days and there will be two ways available for your character to get there:
1) Travel by foot. Keep in mind that you will be crossing the border/DMZ between the United Cities and Harkonian territory.
2) Via ship. If you want to go that route, you will be traveling on the Albatross, the mighty vessel owned by Alcandar and the Legion of The Sun. If you want to travel with them, you'll need to talk to those characters to do so (which can easily be accomplished on-site).

In either case, everyone will end up in the same spot: A small, secluded Scout camp just outside of Darkened Vale, the general location of which may be ascertained by speaking with Baron Greymere prior to your departure from Landfall. Further in-game information will be passed along when everyone arrives.

Fourth:
We have a decent amount of combat planned; while we didn't get a chance to have a "war day" type event this year, this just might make up for that. :)

Fifth:
If you arrive late (after 23:00 / 11pm), please be mindful that the game will most likely have started. Park your car in the parking area, and come to the tavern building via the road to find a plot member to get instructions; this will help to not interrupt the game. If you arrive after 1am, find a parking place and head to the monster camp building (the usual restroom building) and we'll get you into game.

Do not come into game without talking to a plot member first.

Let me say that again:

Do not come into game without talking to a plot member first.

Sixth:
It looks like we will be pretty close to capacity for this event as far as beds go. Please do your best to make sure folks have a place to sleep. We will have a couple of beds available in one of our NPC cabins, but would prefer to not need to use them. As a side note: the room in the back of the kitchen is current reserved.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please either post them here, PM me, or email the plot team at oregonplot@gmail.com.

Thanks!

-Adam

Hey everybody,
I am Ron, I play Alcandar (the guy with the ship). If you wanna talk about ship travel pre-game, feel free to PM me on these boards and I will do my best to get back to you ASAP. My ship can hold more people than could fit on site so we are good to take everyone.

Plot Questions:
1. Since we are arriving IG, should we still grab cabins OOG before lay-on? Put up decco, make beds, etc? If I had a vote it would be yes, since that will make life way easier.
2. Are you encouraging people to use different cabins than they normally do for Landfall?

1) Yes, putting up your stuff ahead of time is a good idea, though I'd HIGHLY recommend JUST decorations. Leave other stuff under the bunks until you get settled in. People will likely be going in and out of the cabins for various reasons before in-game sleeping arrangements could realistically be made, so keep that in mind! We will have a plot person there to deal with marshal situations that may or may not arise.

2) Yes, using different cabins is encouraged though not required. You'll get the idea when game starts. :)

Also: people will have access to their character's workshops for Friday night logistics only. There may be access to workshops after that, but must be arranged in-game via in-game means.

In addition, Logistics will be closing at 10:00pm, Friday night. If you know you will be arriving sometime after that please let us know.

We will try and have it open at 6:00pm.

That should give you plenty of time to check-in and get your character card.

Please try and go through earlier rather then later.

Thank you!

If one has access to another ship, is it possible to take that instead? Are there reports of danger at sea that would render such an option unwise? Not that I don't love Alcandar&co, but if it's just a matter of expedience Ian would take the opportunity to make other arrangements for ship transport.

And no, "making other arrangements" is NOT synonymous with "piracy". How dare you think that.

Due to the nature of the voyage, the inherent risks involved, and certain time and logistical factors, only one ship from Landfall will be allowed to sail up-river and dock.

If you want your ship "in the area", you can have your ship meet up with the small force of naval warships that will be escorting the Albatross. This group of ships will be standing by off the coast, down-river, about a day away, but your actual insertion into the area to meet up for the start of Friday night will be on the Albatross. You'll learn why then.

How are you going to handle the items that we cannot carry with us off the boat? When we took back the fort, we kinda hand-waved it and just had our extra stock sitting in the cabins ahead of time. Since you explicitly don't want us to do that this time, how should we handle extra weapons/arrows/pots/etc?

You may assume that your bedding, decorations, and other non-tagged items can be present where you wish them to be; I'd prefer tagged items to be brought in. The ship or the scout camp may be considered "safe" places to leave such things as PC's will have access to them during the first few hours for one, and the other for the whole weekend.

It'll make more sense once you things start to happen in-game.

I think that'll work for everything except arrows, whose tags we aren't allowed to carry unless we have quivers. Other types of tags we can sort of carry around as long as we don't use them If you want to limit us to just the number of arrows we can carry, that's fine too.

Carrying the magic pot in could be entertaining.

It's prudent to plan for the fact that you're going behind enemy lines and attacking a Hark garrison...so you may not want to bring all of your tagged stuff. Or you might. Either way, you'll be able to choose for the first couple of hours of the event.

Will there be NPC Gypsy's heading there? Also how would they be getting there that's probably who I would roll with!

And when you're going behind enemy lines, you need all your pot :D

Is that why Virid is always alone in the woods! Checking your plants eh? :D

Due to the utter nightmare it would cause on our end, we aren't making NPC's available as travel companions unless we specifically have said, "You travel to <point a> with <npc a>." Since we aren't requiring a written essay from players on how they are getting there (see nightmare), we're leaving it up to you guys to have whatever wild adventures you want to have (within reason; you won't run into any big bads...:P), with the idea that you won't gain or earn anything in terms of plot or treasure, but you'll have some RP to roll with when game starts.

It might be something we try out in the future, maybe (I just got an idea of how something like that could work), but there's no time for it now.

You are, of course, free to travel with other PC's and arrange a story for yourself or the group.

I can't remember if this has been stated out-right, but you may assume that you have gotten directions for where to meet (if you're traveling via land) from Baron Greymere or one of his aids. If you're traveling by boat, you can get information from Alcandar.

You may also get directions from Lord Gyr if you prefer, or one of the four PC council peoples. =)

In my downtime I was told I was travelling with a group of NPC's then splitting off shortly before we got there and continuing by myself. So I will assume I walk in alone after speaking with plot!

The idea is to give characters a way to get where we need them to be at the start of game without having to hand-hold everyone getting to the starting point for Friday night.

Wait you mean you are rejecting my downtime of:
I go alone and do the following:
1. Perm Tiberius
2. Perm the Harkonnian empire
3. Chicken dance on their corpses.

Yup, but only because you missed the downtime deadline.

That is not the downtime we received, sir. Maybe next time. :D
