August Favs

More later.

But for now...

"Pretty pretty princess..."

Sexual Hammock. Most epic song I've heard at nero.

Naga on friday night. Sun wanting to kill them all and everyone else tlaking sense into her/her knowing she couldn't take them all on. Dan's naga asking to talk to Sun alone and her saying sure and walking into her ward. "I'm not going to look into your eyes if that's what you're trying to get me to do."

I actually had a spirit link this event. Not used to that. :)

Blind archery battle. We all knew that was going to go badly at some point. Avien guiding Az directly into a log.

Reaper!!! So nice to see him again and what were the odds that I would have the hat.

Everything Ryan. I love ya man. Hope to see you more.

During the archery battle just looking at the bow on the bench and debating whether or not to grab it and hide. The lovely debate of do I want to risk perming over this bow (ig, this crappy bow and oog a bow that she wants for rp that we won't ever use).

See you guys next event!

I had fun, but I have to say I don't really have too many favorites from this one. A couple things left a realy bad taste in my mouth. I'll get some sleep, and post some faves tomaoorw.

I am surprised and sorry to hear that.

It's really a shame you couldn't be around for the ending. It was the most epic end to a tournament I've ever seen, and totally pc generated. Rock took on Bjorn by himself for a painfully long time in honor combat while the rest of the participants fought. It gave the necessary advantage to the pcs, and in the end Rock was spirit shattered by Bjorn. After he kneeled to honor his fallen foe the pcs surrounded him and won.

Blind Archery. I love this. IRL no one would dare go watch this, participate in it or think it was funny in any way. That being said Blind Archery is IMO the best sport ever to grace Fortannis. It is like a curious mixture of guts, stealth and luck. There are so many factors that would go into making somebody "good" at Blind Archery, being that this was the first time it was ever performed/attempted; no one knew any of these factors. Unlike other competitions Blind Archery revolves around trusting someone elses senses (I.E. your guide), who it seems needs to be just as brave or maybe even moreso than the actual competitor. Skill has less to do with it, but it doesn't hurt. I could write a thesis here about Blind Archery. Instead I will say again. I love this.

Fighting Bjorn. Sean Metzler is my hero. What an epic way to ressurect. The entire fight was rough. I felt excellent after ressurecting, which is typically not the way one feels. I felt like I just bitch-smacked a tyrannosaurus for the greater good of the world. My entire strategy was just to waste as much time as possible. I got to attack him with psychology and defend myself with righteousness. At the end I totally pulled the Old Obi-Wan Kenobi from Episode IV. Then getting bowed to by Lord Galloway; total Aragorn from the end of Return of the King.

All things Hunt. I love you guys and gals.

Nether. Very awesome. Well Done. Thank You.

Marcus, Wynn, Paladar, Pure Lord Drenton!

Becoming a Wild Elf even if it was only temporary. What a trip. Elf-oxa, lol. Hanging out with Avalon, Avian, Sevaria and Ciarrah. Sitting with Rya Tabris and messing with him. I kept asking myself "What would Drak do?"

Sorceress Figment winning Rituals and Spellcasters. Figment flipping out when she saw the Kanoredhil at the final All-Stars Battle. Figment crafting the new sword "Son of Uppercut". Figment is awesome.

I had an awesome time this event. Thank You Deadlands Staff, Plot and NPCs.

-Brian Bender

Oh man. Oh man. So many awesome things happened this event and I'm still so tired I can only recall about half of them. I only started in on Saturday, but oh man it was great.

Team Random's hats, aka some bowls labeled "HAT" with our team name on top of them.
Finally having a weapon!
Going to Teawaddle's house. A group of us got ready for a full-on mod only to find there probably wasn't going to be anything. Gary decided that wasn't cool, and went in to get stuff for a proper encounter. When he came out with the minotaur costume complete with boulder and pillar, I flashed back to Sean describing the minotaur fight from last year and thought "well, crap." The unscaled mod that followed was pure amazingness, with all of us desperately trying to escape an enraged minotaur swinging massive. Seeing the eyes flash red when I hit it with a destruction and a weakness was just amazing. I <3 curses so much.
The Charnel Titan's arrival in the warrior's melee. "CATAPULT?" Dan's Sarr tells it "If we win this, I will get you a catapult and anything else you want." Sean starts towards Avalon and Dan had to stop him from attacking the whole town.
The mage's duel was incredible. Seeing that much powerful magic being chucked around in that amount inspired me.
Blind Archery was awesomesauce. Gebas's instructions were great.
Being a destroyer was a ton of fun, regardless of the outcome. Dan's Cerebreal Devourer taking samples from the fallen was just awesome, as was Nether's retribution.
All things Glorious Red, from the Goblin "Candy" to the Goblin Dance
The feast! Getting to sing is always fun, and getting a gold for it just makes it awesome.
Caillen getting to spend time with his hero Lord Galloway. Fun RP is fun.
Irritating every non-allied judge in some sort of way. Whether it's making Drenten shut down my item so I'd have to take spells just like him or annoying Zhan and Fever Grey with my terrified staring, I think I managed to get at least a snarky comment from all of them.
Entertainment! All the acts were amazing. I think one of the hardest challenges in the tournament was trying not to laugh at Legacy's act.
The Breakfast King and getting tricked into rifting. Getting fey-marked with an egg was pretty hilarious, but it was hard to act like I didn't like it. I think I heard just about every egg-related pun in egg-sistence (okay, I admit it is fun.)
Obstacle relay!
Skylar's appearance and diving out of my chair to avoid him seeing me.
Demia noticing my fey mark and offering to remove it if I asked nicely.
The all-star grand melee. That was the most intense fight I'd ever seen. There was so much emotion that my heart was still racing long after it ended. Watching Air Raksa duel Void-wielding Bjorn on his own was so incredible that I almost lost track of the rest of the fight. That was the most amazing battle I'd ever seen, and it was so inspiring to see how skillfully people fought in it.
So yeah, this is one of my favorite events ever. Thank you so much to Staff and NPCs for making it so amazing!

Tournament events are one of the hardest things to create and run at an event, so props to Deadlands staff. Tournament events aren't my gig, but I had a lot of fun despite that. Here, have some favs:

- Rolling with Nix and Figment. It's not often I get to play with either of these guys, so it was a lot of fun having you around.
- Elf Raksa. Unexpected, but it pleased me so greatly.
- And speaking of: Raksa and Bjorn showdown. The whole all star fight was like watching an extremely intense football game or something. Watching the cheer explode from the crowd when Casey went down, or the silence when it was just Raksa and Bjorn left on the field.
- Blind archery. Okay, I admit: I was SUPER skeptical of this event. This is one of those things I looked at and went "Gary Marvel, wtf are you thinking?" But it ended up being challenging and a LOT of fun.
- Anything the Hunt. I love these guys, in and out of game.
- Discussions with Nether and Silas. Chocolate and Peanut Butter, guys. Chocolate and Peanut Butter.
- Legacy entertainment. I'm sorry, that was pretty much the best thing ever.
- CHARNAL TITAN. DON'T CARE IF IT'S NECROMANTIC. I WANT ONE. AAAAAAAAA.

Ok, here are my favorites:

Twice, I tried opening my weapon tent and was dragged into a module. Not only that, but I survived both times...granted I needed a heal but I didn't rez so it was a good experience. The modules themselves were great from a RP perspective...

Fighter Duels - I knew the outcome was going to be me (Strago) down by simple reason of being far lower level than any of the others, but it was still fun. Vry tried to give Strago a boost by getting him some armor, which for most of the fights meant only a few more swings...looks like I need armor AND a shield :D

Though it was crazy tough not to laugh, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the legacy entertainment...

The blind archery was great, especially when I saw the awesomeness of two archers walk right by each other, followed by both ducking for cover.

The remake of who's on first...once I heard the first lines I knew right where this was going...and it was delivered in a very funny and lively way

I liked the sense of encouragement everyone was trying to give team random the entire event, and I was also glad to see the team didn't rank dead last in all the events...we even had a great singer during the entertainment!

Seeing some old permanently-dead characters return, even if only for a short while...

Last but certainly not least...the epic final round of the tournament...intense watching and hoping we didn't lose...

Thanks to all the npcs and staff for the event. I had an excellent time!

-James aka Strago

Ok Favs time now that I have....... I MISSED WHAT THE... Rock actualy did it....jesus.... Im not leaving an event early again...ever.

Blindfolded Archery: A really amusing an interesting competition

Future Darius: Getting messed with a version of the future where my personal plot has destroyed the world....again.

FEAST: Thank you everyone who cooked. I hope the Chili went over well.

Entertainment entries: Everyone did a really great entertainment, and props to Tab and Christina for NAILING the "who's on first" bit, converted to alliance.

That sums up me, cant wait till sept. See everyone then.

Just a few quick ones:

1. Badass armor. Thank you David!!

2. All things Kelly/Figment. You were my saving grace this weekend. :)

3. Blindfolded archery. Highly amusing to watch.

4. Comraderie among the teams when it came to facing off against legacy.

5. The obstacle relay.

6. Creative hats!

7. Dan skipping around as Nether in the destroyer competition. LOL

8. Stacey as Nether. I really enjoy the personality of the character.

9. Of course watching Rock face off against Bjorn. Totally epic.

and finally

10. Getting to spar with Paladar and really say goodbye. :'(

Had some mixed feelings during this event, but over all I had a great time. I have heard over and over how a tournament event can be difficult to pull off and I must give props to the NH staff for there unique way of giving the tournament meaning.

favs.

- It was a pure honor to be among the fighters in the last battle. The emotional build up moving into the point up until we marched in against legacy was one of the most intense moments for me as a player. Ciarah stating how she felt the most alive she has ever felt in the Hollow, and seeing semi legitimate fear and the various other contestants eyes was so powerful.. The final face off between Rock and Bjorn was superbly epic... and i totally aslo visualized that last moment like you were Obi-Wan Kenobi... especially with Gebous's Luke Skywalker scream "ROCK NOOOOOO!!"

- entertainment! Pulling together the song that Bill wanted to sing. I'm glad that we were able to do it, it was fun. Also I so rarely get to really play music in front of so many people, and I had a blast with my performance. I was really able to get into the moment and just play, and i love when that happens. All the other contestants were equally great. Congrats to all for their great jobs. I especially have to give props to Hannah, being a first time player and singing in front of a bunch of strangers takes a LOT of guts. kudos.

- blind archery was really fun. Even if i did walk my Az into a bush/log... realizing afterwords that we were interrupting directional line up in two different ways... oh well.

- ria tabris mods in the shadow realm and then mod to the crystal woods. Both fights were done extremely well especially the later considering how dark it was and how few holds were called.

- Songs about Hammocks... lol Azurieths improv genius

- Michiko's helmet of badass

- relay/obstacle race... I'm so proud of the Seekers for this one. we did great guys. you are the best.

- Friday night walking into town and fighting undead with Nicodemous, pretty much side by side. It was a nice way to start friday night, I kinda wish there had been a little more random damage throughout the weekend.

- Rp with just about every one, people really brought there RP A game this event, and sunday afternoon i was so into my character it was amazing.

Thanks NH staff

What a great tournament. Having been in a previous one here, I have to say that as a spectator it was much more fun than the last one I was in. I loved the idea of this tournament. Essentially chance and the skill and motivation of the contestants could decide the fate of this world. Great Concept, and well executed by our plot team!

Blind Archery, and the fact that both the initial and all star portion were won by people throwing rocks and axes.

Getting a chance to come in as Marcus for a bit. I mentioned to Gary Sunday morning that I had brought my Marcus gear on the off chance they needed another judge, and was pleasantly surprised.

Breaking my rule for the weekend, swearing that I was not going to get into combat or go on mods because of the banged up knee. And breaking both, the first within 20 minutes of going into game:)

Having a chance to sit and whittle on a wand during much of the Saturday afternoon competitions. See... I was tying to take it easy on the Knee, Honest! Now If I could just get people interested in buying the blanks for their own use:)

Lots of RP, That is almost always a good time for me.

Seeing everyone, and having a chance to get away from the real world for the weekend. Always a pleasure!

The tension during the all star competitions. The last fight was fantastic

Air Raksa, Well Fought Sir!

Oh, One more,

Merchant Row.

I really enjyed seeing the tents and all of the things people were selling, definitely made this more of a festive occassion.

Yeah...tournaments are tough gigs.

Even just conceptually (never mind whether or not you run a good one), some people love them, some people loath them. It's really difficult to make sure everyone has a good time, but unfortunately somebody has to lose and someone has to win. Furthermore, the pcs are up against each other, which makes things even more sensitive.

We wanted to offer that sense of competition, because that is the nature of a tournament, but we also wanted to offer a chance for the pcs to still fight alongside one another, so that no matter what, there would still be the epic fight for the good, and for survival. Nevertheless, inevitably, judging things are subjective, complications arise, and criticisms happen.

As much fun as these puppies can be for some, we're probably not going to run another one for a long time. They are easily three times the work of a normal event. Additionally, I've yet to see a tournament in which people don't get their feelings hurt. The formula simply does not exist. The vast majority of the time people are good about it, but we can see when people are bothered, whether they wish to show us or not, and it bothers us to know there is nothing that can be done to avoid such things. For reasons I can completely understand, it is often more difficult to lose a game to a friend than to take a rez from monster.

But as much as I'm sorry for any and all who might not have had the best time, I'm still very glad that so many of you did. I can honestly say we tried our best.

Gary

First let me say
Thank you to the Staff for doing a great job!!
Merchants Row was fun and I hope to gather people again to have the tents set up
thank you to all those who made the Feast possible . Your dishes were great!
Air Raska ---- What can I say ..you taking on Bjorn so that the others could deal with the rest of them
Blind Archery
Who's are healer...
Seeing PC's I hadn't seen for a long time, all past, present and future, Being able to RP with them
Seeing each team compete to win, yet when the time came to fight against Legacy listening to them all plan how it could best be done. awesome!
All and all a great weekend Thank you

From an NPC perspective the whole tournament nature of the weekend did result in large periods of time with not that much to do. That said, I still had a great time with plenty of neat things to enjoy. I also found the change-up interesting. As far as my limited observation, I think the intent of giving the tournament both a more substantial in-game justification, and promoting unity between the PC's in the midst of competition between them, through the use of the structure and story of the tournament was extremely successful. I got the feeling that while trying their hardest for their own individual team, the greatest motivation for most of the PC's seemed to be working together however necessary to defeat legacy and save their bastion. That was really cool.

My favorites:

Watching the blind archery tournament, what is purely ******** IG is a stroke of genius OOG, and the pinnacle of alliance spectator sports.

The entertainment saturday night, the singers were great, the guitar was excellent, the play was interesting, and the comedy was hilarious.

Legacy's entertainment... The best being "hold hand" and "story of life" Getting some serious glares from Geebus for my inability to keep a straight face and pretend I wasn't enjoying it.

Me: Ok, my name is Timothy.
Daniel: Ok, I'll be Titus.
Tim: ... um... ok, I'll be Ed.
haha, loved the looks we got from some of the PC's when me and my brother introduced ourselves

Black-Widow / Vampire Bat creature. That was fun to put together, even if I never got out of the cage. From the same mod, "No, wait, let's do them one at a time" *just in time... and also my brother's springing forward with "80 elemental Ice!" upon being freed shocking Nick so much he forgot his shield and just fell to the ground. :D

Playing Nether's flame cats. Getting to stalk people, rub legs, purr, and toss flame bolts around. Having all the girls go "aww, it's so cute" and all the guys promptly waylay or sleep me.

The late saturday night mod in absolute darkness. I don't think I've ever fought with that little light, but everyone did a great job. Also, getting to swing death, and hearing Rock go "that one's mine!" whenever I'd make my first attack.

Surprising and killing Albert's girlfriend in the rogues comp with a single hit. Being super confused when she continued to lie there and only figuring out later that it was a first level character who would of course be taken out by 12 normal.

Also, same twilight elf, sunday morning during the tangrams, Vry running over to tell her that she'd forgotten her ears. Being reminded of my first event PCing when I did the exact same thing walking in to town saturday morning only for Will to frantically motion to his chin before gasping "the beard!!"

The final fight was pretty neat to watch, even if they all decided to fight it out on the exact opposite side of the field from all the spectators. Rock vs Bjorn was quite epic.

I'm still surprised that none of the PC's decided to gank the legacy spectator I kept going in as. You guys are such pansies ;)

An important favorite I forgot was watching all the Entertainment pieces!

Some special mentions:

-Jeremy's AMAZING guitar solo! Holy cow! I knew you could play but I didn't know you improv solos like that.

-Hannah's song which had me in tears (in a good way).

-Tab and Christina bringing the house down with "Who's the Healer".

Faves are always a bit different from the NPC side of things but here goes....

Story of Life...(seeing Sean in my senior prom dress made my entire event) That entire skit made me laugh so hard and yet I was white headbanding it and had to be somewhat quiet. The site of Gary's NY DragNurse getting pulled in by Cousin Clint I was just...I mean honestly!!! That was hilarious!

The final battle...It was like watching Rocky, Rambo, Karate Kid, Die Hard, Lord of the Rings, every epic fighting movie all at once. I mean I was so on edge!!!

Skylar showing up as the town's wild card

Watching each member of Legacy get killed

Seeing Wynn and Marcus again...even if the person I was playing didn't know them and couldn't hang with them. It was really cool to see them both again.

Seeing Bjorn get ticked at his father showing up

You've got egg on your face....witty witty Osiris

The Merchant's Row those tents looked SO COOOL

The Rogue's contest in the woods...scaring Silas and Wik (actually I was happy to get Ben back after the number of times he's scared me)

Getting to play Akane again, killing a Legacy scout and sending a message to Nic
Me: You get a message we've been attacked by a Legacy scout
Nic: Okay how do I get this message
Me: In your brains
Nic: Oh Okay!

The PCs making up a mod...honestly the Minotaur Mod wasn't supposed to happen...you guys just sorta pushed the MarvelCard and out popped a Minotaur! SO COOL

What do you get when you cross a pig with an elephant...(whoever wrote that deserves a swat)

Brownie poops and all things Glorious Red!

Necromantic Weapons WOOHOO

Blind Archery...absolutely AWETASTIC!

THANK YOU NPC'S AND STAFF!!
AND EVERYONE WHO BROUGHT FOOD
espiecally lauren, love that bacon and cheese soup.
now for my favorites

i know the whole event centered around the tournament, but without a team, to which i have only myself to blame and i accept that, i chose to avalon to stay dead for so long. a couple times i did find myself bored. but watching some of the events was the best, and the couple of mods i went on was fun.

anyway my favorites

WILD ELF AIR RAKSA!! omg that was so cool seeing you as an elf. and the talks about what kind of elf you are

talks with wick about the crying twilight elves in the woods ha ha ha

the story of life skit by legacy. OMG i wanted to laugh so hard, and a few times i did.
sean the charnal titan going "ow....... ow..... owww." ha!
hennessey going " i aint goin out there are like a hundred adventurers out there!" oh cousin clint. that was cool having knowledge of cousin clint to explain to other people.

the who's the healer bit and wicks singing, you made avalon cry with that one.

silas, ooooo i dont think avalon hates anyone more than that guy. and the severe verbal beat down by kainen.

interactions with aklieed. me "aklieed, nice hat."
"thanks," puts it on my head. "you better be wearing it when i come back tomarrow."
thats why i was wearing it on saturday all day, but avalon actually ment that in total honesty, it is a nice hat.
i liked it so much, by compleate chance, on sunday when i went to walmart i found it sitting right on top of all the other unmatching hats it was the only one left of that style, like it was fate or soemthing, and will probbably get avalon killed.

wild card morgryum... wow crazy
and the mod to save ria tabris that was awesome.
i like used all my battle magic on that, meaning, my lightning, elemental blasts and fire and at least half of my wand charges

the all star fighters of legacy sean the charnal titan looking right at me and like licking his chops and that look on your face like you were remembering how good something tasted, i both hate and love you for that. i wanted to laugh but had to control myself cause avalon did not appreciate that at all.

its to bad i missed the destroyer battle, but avalon is terrified of the mind flayers, i mean cerebral devourers. ;)

i agree blind fold archery was so much fun to watch. kelsey, there was a moment where you passed not 5 feet infront of tab, he was like listening for you, but you were to quiet.

the final all star battle was watching the best of the best of the best, fight it out you all were awesome.
and raksa fighting bjorn was amazing

the whole event was cool, different, and fun overall

thanks again, npc's and staff!

Surprising and killing Albert's girlfriend in the rogues comp with a single hit. Being super confused when she continued to lie there and only figuring out later that it was a first level character who would of course be taken out by 12 normal.
Well, to be fair, she was third level. :P

I had a lot of fun this weekend. I really wish the All-Star Rogue's competition didn't have to be so late so I could have enjoyed it more, but the regular one was a blast. Still, though, I had a good time taking on Pure Lord Samuel by myself for a good ten minutes or so.

Having Hannah there this weekend, and seeing her bravery tackling the entertainment portion all by herself. Also, thanks to Gary and Craig for supplying weapons and costuming. Also to Jaimi for helping her out with donations. ;)

The three man fighter's melee was a lot of fun, and it was great to see the Hunt fight like, well, a hunting pack. Getting to face all three at the end was a pretty epic way to lose, I only wish I had the time to cross weapons with them before I got slaughtered.

Being asked my opinion of some of the people that were being chosen for the wild cards, and suggesting other PC's. "Yes, Samuel WOULD make a good candidate for the all-star relay race, but I think Heresy would probably do just as well..."

Forgetting how much damage I swung SOOO many times it wasn't even funny. Not PCing in a while made me forget almost my entire card and items.

The relay race was so awesome. I walked into the tournament knowing that if my team had a chance at winning one of the competitions, it was this one.

Purposely getting confused and making completely wrong moves with the Tangrams. Hehe.

Loading Air Raksa up with eleven dodges. "Heresy was with you, Rock..." Him going Obi-Wan at the end was the best part. If it wasn't for that honor combat, there would probably have been five more resurrections in the Hollow.

Glorious Red having plot immunity! YES!

Not drinking the lava in the volcano. Man that was a rough mod.

"Make way we got a pregnant lady here!" I'm pretty sure Legacy won the weekend with that skit.

Wik.

Entertainment as a whole. Everyone did amazingly, and people are lucky I wasn't a judge. Everyone would have gotten first.

Stealing Johnathan's hat and evading his swings on me.

Getting Nick's BADASS sword casted.

Everyone jumping on me about our prize in the tournament. Apparently everyone wants a Regen scroll. Who knew?

That's about all for now. I will think of more later.
