August Favs

First, I have to say how much I appreciate the tremendous time and effort clearly displayed in this tournament event. I'm one of the aforementioned folks that pretty much despise tournaments, but I came here because of how much I love and have missed Deadlands. You guys made a tournament event mean something more than treasure - I tip my hat to your team!

A few fav moments:

-Blind archery. Not to beat the horse completely dead, but that was one of the funniest things I've ever seen at Alliance. So funny, in fact, that Nether decided to Silence my entire group because we were enjoying it too much. Expect this to be stolen, with extreme prejudice.

-Team Random. You guys kept showing up and keeping it positive, and being very gracious in every competition. And holy CRAP can that girl sing! I look forward to seeing what you folks pull out in the future!

-Jessica Bender. Colors with bling. You are completely insane, and I love you for it. Well, that and many reasons. But the insanity is just one of them.

-The Hunt.

- Sean as Charnal Titan in drag giving birth: "Hold haaaannnnnnnnnd." Mike: *disgusted look* Sean as insistent Charnal Titan not giving birth until someone holds his damn hand: "Hooooolllld haaaaaaannnnnd". Mike: *winces and holds Sean's hand*

-Trying to get everyone to stop laughing at the Legacy skit, and failing miserably myself and having to hide my face. LOVE the NPCs!!!

-Gary Marvel, you're a BA rogue. It's a testament to your mad skills that the draw was called on Saturday night.

-Entertainment was tremendous. What a talented group of people!

-Jaimi Davis. You've got a tough job, and I appreciate that very much. Thanks for listening and always being willing to hear feedback.

-Ohyeah, finally petitioning to join the team. Guess it was time, eh? To business!

-All things Figment. Our characters are totally going to be BFFs three years from now, I have no doubt. ;)

I had a blast this weekend! Here is my long "winded" list of favorites...

1. The Tournament Concept: First let me state that normally I do not have fun at tournament events. Why? Well mostly because of the tournament competitions themselves--in the past I always felt like I was competing in areas where I had no strengths and I was just going to look like a fool (my vanity doesn't like when I don't look halfway decent at something). I never minded the friendly competition, I just didn't like showing just how poor I was at certain competitive events (ie, the race -- I am slow now and I used to be a first place track runner).

I would say the first fun tournament I had was at Caldaria's tournament last year. My favorite competition was the relay race because it was a hodpodge of everything and it was fun!

This tournament was by far the best I have ever attended. I enjoyed EVERY competition. I got into preparing for the tournament on Thursday and let my "creativity" get out of control in creating some consistent costuming (some with bling). Colors is always a rough and highly competitive event for those of us who sew and pride ourselves on looking good. This time I didn't try to win, just place and I think that change in mindset helped me have fun with it.

2. Ritual Casting: this was awesome. This competition really pushed me to think about what type of ritual caster Ciaarah should be. You don't often see ritual casting truly role played well and here we had a chance to go all out. I hope that we can do this for future rituals that we are casting... though it may be a lot of work and pomp and pageantry--it adds so much to the game. The reward for this event was uber. I am so happy for Sunderdragon for winning their spell store item!!!

3. Destroyer: loved the concept. I think with a bit more tweaking it could be even cooler. I would have liked to see the lower levels have even more points than they did to make a bigger monsters or higher levels have more of a handicap.

4. Tangrams: Oh thank you, thank you, thank you! I loved nerding out with Will on this one. With the right minds together you can speed through this and it was so much fun.

5. Archery/Thrown Weapons: I loved the combination of the thrown weapons to this competition. I loved how the two competitions were put together. THIS is truly an archery/thrown weapon competition that makes sense as to how we use it in the game. The blind archery has made my top 10 moments in my 10+ years of playing this game. What made it awesome and amazing were the ones competing. Delauder's refitting in the middle of it all, Wick and Sevaria's close call and going into stealth mode only to unknowingly circle around each other, Wick going nuts after landing the first hit, Az running into the tree, Delauder firing into the audience, lol everything about this competition was priceless

6. Obstacle Relay Race: Another favorite that I got to compete in. My arms are so sore from the crab walk! This is how a "race" should be done. I really thought this was great.

7. Craftsman: I am so thankful that we have this type of competition. It allows those of us who buy craftsman skills and can be crafty out of game to really feature our work. Twice now my pie has been beaten by a helmet. I loved the conversation afterwards in the tavern where we were brainstorming how to combine a pie and a helmet so Ciaarah could win next time.

8. Entertainment: Everyone brought their A game to this competition and everyone did a great job. I missed Legacy's competition because I was trying to keep Rock from going in and killing them all. Confine, bane, ****... Wick and Gebous you gotta take out Rock!

9. All star's grand melee: There have been a few times when I felt the weight of a plot arc on my shoulders... when your actions decide the direction of the game and can affect all of your friends (and enemies). In those moments there is a weight that wraps around your heart, a tightness in the chest, a chill against the skin, and your mind gets sharper as you prepare for what must be done. I have to say that this battle was one of those moments. I had been preparing for months for this moment--knowing that when Rock would go up against Bjorn that he would be fighting something that could shatter his spirit. I gobbied, bought and acquired as many magic armor scrolls as I could. I was hoping that I could join this battle so that I could be there to back-pack everyone and make sure no one's spirit was shattered. The battle was rough and sloppy at first and I knew we were in trouble but we could do it if we pulled together. When Rock challenged Bjorn I knew he bought us the victory with his life. Despite him having every dodge, parry, and evade item we had--I wasn't sure it was going to be enough. In many ways I was so upset and disappointed that all the preparation I had done was for naught because I couldn't be behind him to protect him. In other ways, I knew it had to be done. Hot damn! He convinced Bjorn to come back as a mortal again to fight him. How sexy cool is that especially for an elf?!? I was so proud of the rest of the team that we took out the rest of Legacy. My magic armors were used on the others... our focus had changed. We were given a gift of time from Rock and now we had to take out those other ones as quickly as possible and be ready to do the same to Bjorn if Rock fell. I did not feel that I was at a game in that fight. I did not feel as if this was make believe. It was real, it was serious, we won, but at a costly price. That is what makes it epic. Thank you for giving me that opportunity!

10. Resurrecting Rock: wow, I had no idea how emotional I would get. For a moment I wasn't sure if I should rez him as an Orc or as an Elf. The elf won and so the story began and then concluded. The weight of the All stars battle did not come off until Rock took his first breath--then we won.

11. Late night modules with Sevaria: Lady I love RPing with you! I will be your healer on any module that you want to take me on!

12. All things elves

13. Fun with Deborah

14. Conversations with the Randoms, your team totally rocked! I am so glad that you guys participated in this tournament and I was so psyched to see you guys be part of the Rogues and Obstacle course all start team!

15. Tenting it on-site: it was so cool to stay on-site instead of at a hotel. I love our new tent!

So thank you all everyone for making this tournament so much fun! Thank you to the staff who came up with the different competition events and making them well rounded. Thank you for the concept of the all stars and the weight of the outcome of those competitions. It made it real. Thank you to all of the PCs for bringing this event to life for me.

I look forward to the next event!

Jessica

Surprising and killing Albert's girlfriend in the rogues comp with a single hit. Being super confused when she continued to lie there and only figuring out later that it was a first level character who would of course be taken out by 12 normal.
Well, to be fair, she was third level. :P
Oops, my bad, don't smite me! :) Well whatever the level she did a great job singing, I was quite impressed!
